We are raising morally illiterate kids? I am agreed with her thesis. This is the main thing she is telling in her thesis and also she has used many persuasive techniques like alliteration, point of view, emotional language, ironic situations etc very effectively.

In today’s world, most of the children are not aware of morally teachings. They are lack of them. They don’t know how to behave with elders, with their fellow students or friends. They spend their most of time watching TV, playing video games, texting on cell phone and listening songs with head-phones. They love to be alone. They don’t have any time for helping the people who are old, helpless and with disabilities. Instead of they make fun of them. They even don’t show any respect for their parents and also for their grand-parents. They love to do what they watch on the TV. They try to accept all those things they watch, listen in their favourite shows, movies. Today’s movies and TV shows don’t show and teach any moral thing or teaching in them.

Today even, parents don’t have time for their kids too. They are also busy in their work, business. They don’t have time to teach their children the moral values, behaviour. They keep themselves so busy that they almost forget about their children. If any child or teen ager has any problem and he or she wants to discuss with parents, for that parents don’t have any time to listen to or discuss that problem. Parents want to give every comfort of life to their kids and like this they make themselves so busy that they even cannot get enough time to spend with their children, to listen to them. They forget to tell them about their great moral teaching, values those play a great role to make a person’s life happy. They just want them study these values but don’t teach them how to use these small things in their life. That is also a reason that children only think about themselves and they also forget how to use the small moral words as ‘Thank you’ or ‘Please’.

Parents should spend some time with their children. They should listen to them, discuss their problems, and should also take in their confidence that they will always stand for them in every problem. They should teach them how to respect others, their opinions. As well also tell them about moral values. They should teach them patience, tolerance and how to get confidence in themselves (children). Teachers can also play a big role in it by making them learn these things in the school because after home, children spend their most of time in the school.

Persuasive Techniques:- She has used many these techniques in her thesis as imagery, facts, personal anecdote, expert testimony etc. With the help of these techniques she is succeeded to impress her audience. With the help of them she successfully tells the main ideas of her essay. The goal of these techniques is to persuade the audience to believe or do something.

Here are some techniques, she has used in her thesis:-
1. Expert testimony:- We don’t believe on anything easily unless that is told by any specific person. We rely on experts to advise us about things that we don’t know ourselves. Scientists, doctors, professors and other professionals often appear in ads and advocacy messages, lending their credibility to the product, service, or idea being sold. She has used many times this techniques in it. For example,” I’m not saying kids are immoral, I am saying that they don’t have the same background, the same set of rules as before.” says Burle Summers, president of moral values association of Ontario. There are also many other examples in this essay.

2. Facts:- This technique is used when any writer wants to prove something to the readers, audience. He uses tests, statistics or information that sounds “scientific” to his audience. For example, Medwell uses the fact that ” Television is watched by 97 per cent of Canadian children for an average of 20 hours per week.”

3. Personal anecdote:- An anecdote is a little story that makes a point. Anecdotes can be very effective because they are interesting and can be entertaining, as well. Anecdotes are used by the authors for getting the interest of their readers. Medwell also starts her thesis by telling a small incident of ‘ Derek and Adam’. In this way, she tries to persuades her readers about her thoughts.

4. Repetition:- This technique is used for effect and emphasis. A writer may repeat phrases, statements, or ideas. He may develop a catchy phrase, for example, and use it periodically through his writing. Medwell also repeats her main thoughts about morality and today’s generation again and again in this thesis.

5. Emotional Appeal:- Writers may appeal to fear, anger or joy to sway their readers. They may also add climax or excitement. This technique is strongly connected to the essay’s mood. With her thoughts and writing, she also appeals to the emotions of the audience about her main topic.

In spite of these techniques, there are some more persuasive techniques like point of view, irony, alliteration etc used by Medwell very effectively.
