Experience at Bhopal by Saumya Pratik course:TGC 115

Dear friends,

I have been recommended for army in TGC 115 course from 22 Board Bhopal and I would be glad to share my success story with you. Before I go through my day to day schedule at selection processlet me tell you some important points that influence your recommendation, these are:

Be yourself- Be truthful
Always be confident, very confident! (this will take you all the way through)Always be positive (very important during your psychological test)Listen to the instructions given by officers very carefully (they often contain the solutions)You may have to stand in Q’s for hours, and you may have to skip a meal during testing procedure, never show anger and anguish on your face, remember it’s your never give up attitude that will take you all the way through.

Day1: We reached Bhopal station, and the first thing you would see is that there were more than 400 candidates, and while talking to them you may feel demotivated listening to their stories of countless pursuits and how a particular board is infamous for high rejection rate, please don’t get dejected and avoid getting into these kind of loose talks, you must stay motivated all throughout. The first day was just for doing verification and filling out numerous forms, you may have to wait for long duration’s and may feel that things are not going on in an organized manner and you may have to skip you lunch or dinner or tea, but as I said don’t show a sign of anguish on your face, remember thing is just a trailer, if u get recommended your life is going to get much tougher in the academy, take it as a stepping stone towards the grueling training ahead.

Day 2: You have to get up early and report for Officer’s intelligence test and PP&DT test by 6 o’ clock. The OIT is pretty simple, and if you have average intelligence you will be able to do all the questions well before stipulated time. For PP&DT you need something more, you will be shown a hazy black and white picture, please take your time to identify the lead character and give him a name and age. Always try and write a positive motivational story, even if you have a negative scene, try and twist the story to give it a positive ending. Always write from the past of the story where it starts from, how it leads to the current situation and how your hero shapes the future.

While discussing the story, narrate whatever you have written, try to articulate your words within the time frame of 1 minute of narration, remember this is where you can impress the presiding officer by your language skills. Once the discussion starts it becomes very hard to keep your point, people would be fighting but don’t add to the fight. People who verbally quarrel the most generally have the most moronic points, so it’s always the quality of your talk and not the quantity that matters. Give few points but good and different points, always try to be the mediator in the group if there is a quarrel, and try to reach a general consensus before time is up.

Day 3: We were left with 48 candidates for the next 3 days. We had to undergo psychological test that consists of TAT, WAT, SRT. Vignesh has mentioned these tests in details in one of the sections pls practice those. TAT(thematic appreciation test) is similar to PP&DT, always write positive and motivational stories. WAT (word association test) you will be shown words on screen and within 15 seconds u will have to write a sentence that comes to your mind, remember the movie Zindagi na milegi dobara and how Abhay Deol puts a single word to Farhan Akhtar and by the next word that Farhan Guesses he tries to perceive his psychology, the same thing happens here. The key is to always write positive sentences, even if you get negative word like ‘Murder’ try and frame a positive sentence like, ‘Murder the cause of the crime, not the criminal’.

SRT (Situation reaction test) this the most difficult of all, as the time is short, people are not able to finish all questions, I did 43 out of 60, but I would suggest that you try to do at least 50. Write short sentences, use telegraphic language if you can, identify the problem and try always to give solution to the problem. For eg: there is a fire in the neighbor’s house and a small girl is trapped what will you do? Remember here the primary target is to save the girl, secondary is to douse the fire. So your ans should be like ‘use a blanket and save the girl, then help neighbors douse the fire’ remember you have to be positive at all times and try and find solutions to the problem. Always be positive and you will fare well in this test. Post this you will be given time to write about what your parents think about you, hat your teachers’ or employer thinks about you what your friends and colleagues think about you and what you think about yourself, be truthful, identify your qualities and jot them down beforehand. It’s always good to keep a good balance between your good qualities and your shortcomings it shows the psychologist that you have a good idea about yourself. Remember no man is perfect, and they are not looking for perfect people.

I had my PI on the very same day, dress up smartly and be confident, when inside the interview hall, always look into the eyes of the interviewer while answering. While filling out the PIQ be truthful to yourself, don not mention any sports or hobbies that you did not play this will always be caught and will go against you and you can forget about your chances of getting selected then. The interviewer asked me to tell about my education starting from 10th, I took time to count my achievements as well as mention that I had low scores in 12th IIT/AIEEE and graduation ,I gave him valid reasons explaining my poor performance in academics, remember its nothing to be ashamed of low scores, I made it a point to tell him that although my scores are low but my basics of physics, mechanics and engineering subjects were strong, and he verified that by asking a lot of technical questions from my branch. Rest of the interview was easy and I was at ease. Try and go through the current events.

Day 4: GTO test, remember guys whatever you have said till now to the interviewer and written in your psychological test will be tested here on the grounds, for eg; you said that you are a good leader, so you must show the same in PGT, Command task and FGT. You said that you are a good team player; you must reflect that in snake race. If you said you were courageous, you must show that in the Individual task. The first task for us was the GD, the first topic was ‘Reasons behind our country not being able to produce quality engineers’ and ‘Increasing vulgarity in television ’ always talk sensible and give good points, listen to the GTO before the task starts, he will give you enough hints about the topic that you can build upon. If your language skills are not good, please make efforts to improve it so that you can converse fluently in English.

Our next task was Group planning, it’s an important test, as a military leader you will have to face these situations and tackle a problem with given man and materials, the task is fairly easy and anyone with commonsense can see through the problem. Always remember that there are a numerous resources available to you that not mentioned in the map or the statement, like if there is a village, you can take help from villagers that will increase your man power, if there is a water body, it can be used for transport.

Always prioritize your problems, for example if there is a bomb blast that is going to happen, your primary target should to evacuate the area, and inform concerned authorities in time before the bomb blasts, if time permits you should also try and catch the people who planted the bomb (this should be your last priority), try and tackle the problem in the decreasing order of their priority. Then we had the PGT, the problems are fairly simple and time is not much of a concern to the GTO, he wants to see how you tackle the problem, try and get to a forward position from where you can see the features and support structures on the grounds, you will notice that the support structures have a lot of hidden features behind them that you can utilize, you can see these features if you can reach a forward position, you don’t have to be the leader always, but always give good points. The same is the tactics for both HGT and FGT.

We also had the snake race and Individual task on the same day, snake race is easy, just show your josh, and camaraderie help people get on the walls and carry the burden with others. Show good team spirit and you will do great. Individual task is about your getting over your fears and showing that you have a good stamina, make a mental picture in which order you want to attack the obstacles I kept the Burma bridge for the end, because it’s the one that takes most of the time.

Day 5: We were left with Lecture, Command task and FGT, as I mentioned it’s imperative that you have a good command over English language so that you can talk fluently, in the battle fields you have to command men, it’s important to have good command over the language. Also keep yourself abreast with current affairs. Command task is similar to PGT, you have to command your men to cross over an obstacle, never take ideas from your men, be clear in your ideas and clear in your orders.

Day 6: We were all lined up for our conference, keep your calm, and always look towards the president in the hall. My conference was short and crisp. After the conference it’s the time for the results. It was a memorable moment when they called out Chest No 17, Saumya Pratik, it was really amazing. I wish all the readers all the best in their pursuits, always be positive. I would like to thank SSBinterviewtips, and Vignesh from bottom of my heart for making thinsg so easy for me.

All the very best
