This paper would be used as a guide to develop a usable plan to build teams and help eliminate conflict that has been created among the employees of Riordan Manufacturing. Riordan Manufacturing goal is to produce a new product but need to resolve internal conflicts among two to the employees. Utilizing various types of conflict management strategies would help alleviate any major conflict within the work environment and both employees; it would lessen the tension in the workplace and increase productivity. Conflicts are inevitable and would prevail as each individual would have different perspectives of things. The key element is to find the most appropriate strategy to resolve conflicts in the workplace. There is several solution types, the most appropriate one would be used for each circumstances.

Currently, Riordan Manufacturing is in the process to begin manufacturing a new product, using a cross-functional team would be best suited. Employees that have experience from other department of the company would be used to manufacture the new product. The said employees have not worked on this particular project. Each member from each process can confer with each other as to how they can establish and venture to create this new product; they would be able to provide their input based on their experience and knowledge. Each team member would be given an opportunity to work with each other and learn together in the process of producing the new product.

3. What potential barriers may arise during team formation? How will you address these barriers? Your response should be at least 100 words.

There are several potential barriers that could arise during the team formation. Such barriers as: lack of communication, lack of trust, different background and work styles. Addressing these barriers would alleviate the disruption in team collaboration. The formation of a new team would consist of a variation of divisional employees and would include new employees together they would help create the new design for the product. Through training sessions and resources the team members would be able to build trust with each other. As the team learns background information and the different work styles of the other team members they would be able to have a higher success rate.

4. What measures will be put in place to evaluate if the team is operating successfully? Your response should be at least 100 words.

Performance evaluation will be conducted often to measure each member performance. This is one way for the company to measure employee’s performance and track major accomplishments. The manager should motivate the employees throughout the project, setting attainable goals, observing their strength and weakness. As this would let the managers know what is working or not working, what needs to be address to obtain a successful outcome? When goals are accomplished then one would know the team is performing successfully and then goals are not being met, managers would need to find ways to address and improve the issues that is preventing those goals from being attained.

Certain areas of conflict is put aside to avoid tension amongst team members This should only use to temporary resolve a conflict; as an employee can feel offended if the conflict is not resolved immediately or think their opinion don’t matter.

Avoiding Strategy

Ignoring the conflict thinking it would disappear.
A person who is an avoider deems to have low self-esteem and could not be given a position of power.

Collaboration

Making a decision that is best for everyone; A group works together from beginning to end to accomplish their goals This strategy can take longer if each individual must be satisfied.

2. Which of the available conflict management strategies is most appropriate for the current situation with Clyde and Dan? Provide your rationale, including what factors you considered in making your selection. Your response should be at least 100 words.

The most appropriate conflict management strategy would be the Collaboration strategy this is best suited for the current situation with David and James as both parties are caught in a fire of rumor putting both of them against each other. It is best to have both employees sit down together, speak with one another directly, this strategy would allow them to communicate in a positive way, giving an opportunity to both of them to voice their grievance and come to an understanding. This would resolve the conflict in an amicable way also eliminating any third party aggravation.

3. If the selected strategy is not successful, what is your alternate strategy? Provide your rationale for this selection. Your response should be at least 100 words.

Using another alternate strategy if the first selected conflict management strategy was not successful would be the Comprising strategy. Having both employees get together and acknowledge their differences, to work around the issues and be able to work within the same environment would help them both resolve the existing conflict in an amicable way. As they work together they would be able to see things differently and also form a relationship of their own. This particular situation both employees may think one or the other is competing for a position within the team however the comprising strategy could help them both to understand that either one is a threat to their position.

4. What potential road blocks might be encountered in resolving the conflict? How would you address these? Your response should be at least 100 words.

There are several potential road blocks that can be encountered in resolving the conflict, as both people might feel they are forced to accept a particular outcome, or there can be a repeat of the same situation. Even though both employees appear to be great employees however underlying beliefs and prejudices may surface. Taking control of the situation if both employees aren’t able to resolve the conflict on their own might need a third party to mediate both employees on a one on one and then together. The purpose is to find a resolution to the issue which could be a win-win outcome for both employees and the work environment as it would lessen the time spent on conflicts.
