ObamaCare is the official name for the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. The bull was signed by the President on March 23, 2012. It provides affordable healthcare insurance to millions of uninsured people, and reduces the growth in healthcare spending. The ObamaCare Healthcare bill was created to provide more rights to people who struggle to obtain healthcare insurance. This bill was created to eliminate wasteful spending and unsuccessful health care programs. Under this bill Americans will receive medical attention despite pre-existing conditions. This bill regulates the insurance companies, but your healthcare decisions are still made between you and your doctor. (“Obamacare: Pros And Cons Of Obamacare Dispelling The Myth”, n.d.) ObamaCare will provide 30 of 44 million uninsured Americans access to health insurance. Millions of Americans have already benefits from ObamaCare’s improved health care services, and some families have already saved thousands of dollars in health care costs last year.

ObamaCare closes the “donut hole” for Medicare drugs while providing wellness and preventatives services without out- of- pocket costs to improve health care for seniors. Low income Americans (who have not opted out of Medicaid Expansion) will be covered since ObamaCare is expanding Medicaid to those under the poverty level and cannot afford (not enough money to and too much to qualify for Medicaid) insurance. Americans under 400% of the federal poverty level can save 60% on premiums in tax credits. ObamaCare includes a mandate on fast food restaurants requiring them to display caloric content to promote health and wellness. Children can stay on their parents’ insurance plan until age 26. The FDA can approve more generic drugs reducing the cost for consumers. One of the important purposes of ObamaCare is to reducing health care costs for all Americans in the United States. The FDA will approve more generic drugs and this will cut the costs of for patients, and especially those who have chronic diseases, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart complications. Copay and deductible will be eliminated for Medicare users, and they will receive a 50% discount for all brand name drugs. Health insurance help will be provided to retired persons aged 55-64 by re-insurance programs.

Insurance companies can no longer drop people with pre-existing conditions from coverage when they are sick. Healthcare companies will not be able to set lifetime limits on coverage. Children with pre-existing conditions cannot be discriminated against by health insurance companies. Health insurance companies will not be able to set restrictive annual limits on health insurance companies. Private insurance plans will provide free preventive care without deductibles or co-pays. Community health care centers will receive increased funding to provide for patients using their services. Public long term care insurance will be created providing community- based and home care services to adults physically disabled (Stark-Humphrey (2013), Congress has passed the 2010 Health Reform Bill, and it is already in effect. Many Americans are striving to get the best health care possible, unfortunately they do not have enough money to pay for their medications, or see a health care professional. The Health Reform Bill primary concern is to expand and provide coverage, improve healthcare delivery systems, control health care costs, and produce wellness programs that decrease health problems.

There are many pros and cons with this bill and there is information available to those who do not understand or want more information. I think ObamaCare will make a positive impact in the lives of those uninsured, at or below poverty levels, and the elderly. There are still those who do not have a clear understanding on the Health Reform Bill, but there are call centers, that have customer service representatives to answer all questions pertaining to this bill. There are websites available to assist you with your questions and concerns. I know that currently, this new health innovation has saved the American people millions of dollars, reduces the cost of wasteful spending, and provided health care for millions of uninsured Americans.
