Traditional education used to be the primary means of furthering ones education. However, in recent years online education has become more popular and is currently the preferred means of education. When concerning the convenience of the education, and resources online education has surpassed its opponent. Did you know that According to the U.S. Department of Education, National Center for Education Statistics Enrollment in degree-granting institutions between 2000 and 2010, increased by 37 percent, from 15.3 million to 21 million? (Source U.S. Department of Education, National Center for Education Statistics. (2011).The Condition of Education 2011(NCES 2011 -033), Table A-43-1). During the same period, online education courses accounted for an estimated 12.2 million enrollments. These numbers are hard to ignore, and it is safe to say that while some people feel traditional education is better for their educational needs; online education is quickly becoming the preference for Americans returning to school, but why? I want to compare the two and let you choose for yourself.

From the outside, looking in we can see that both online and traditional education hold their students to a very high academic standard. Both have an academic code of conduct that is in place to ensure the quality of the education provided. With either online or traditional education, penalties are in place for students who violate the academic code of conduct. These penalties are in place to ensure that the highest level of integrity is upheld. Online and traditional educators as well as students feel it is very important to uphold the integrity of their institution, so that their degrees will also be held in high regard. While some people will still feel that traditional education provides a better quality education the online enrollment numbers reflect that the quality of online education is widely accepted across the United States, and more employers are recognizing the exceptional quality of the education coming from online graduates.

Any student will tell you, when returning to school instructor support is very important. That support will play a key role when choosing what type of institution to attend. Many traditional students have said the ability to get face-to-face interaction and support from their instructor is one of the reasons they went with traditional education. Those same students admitting that sometimes getting that support in a one- on- one environment can require appointments, and a tremendous amount of time. While online education does not provide the face-to-face support that traditional education has, there are many student support systems and services available to online students and many available around the clock and on the go for convenience. Which some say led to the University Of Phoenix (online campus) becoming the number one enrolling institution in 2010! Both traditional and online institutions understand the importance of providing instructor support to their students. With the University Of Phoenix, online becoming the number one enrolling institution in 2010 it is safe to say that Americans returning to school are becoming more comfortable with the ideal of getting their education online.

With the growing number of working adults returning to school, convenience and flexibility play a major role in determining the success of these students. While traditional education has a set class time and participation requirements in place and may require appointments for one- on -one time with instructors, most also offer night and weekend classes in an attempt to provide more convent class times. As of 2010 60 percent of colleges and universities offer online degrees, also in an attempt to provide that convince and flexibility. Having personally, experienced online education and traditional education, as well as reviewing the enrollment numbers for online and traditional institutes.

I found the majority of Americans returning to school are 25 and up working adults so convenience and flexibility was the deciding factor for them to continue their education. Being that online education is designed for the working adult, the enrollment numbers show online education is now Americas preferred form of education for working adults. Although online education also has participation requirements in place, online education allows students more freedom to work at times that are convenient. Again both online and traditional education understand convenience and flexibility are need to accommodate the working student, and both online and traditional intuitions have made major changes and improvements in an attempt to accommodate the growing number of working adults returning to school.

We have compared the quality of the education provided by both online and traditional insinuations, and determined that the quality of the education provided by traditional institutions was once preferred by students and employers. However, in recent years the quality of online education is held at the same if not higher regard among students. We also looked at the support offered by both traditional and online institutions, and again traditional educations face-to-face student support has been perform among students but just like the quality online institutions support system has quickly become preferred support system among working adults returning to school. In addition, we compared convinces and flexibility of each form of education, and found again that in the past, the options traditional education had in place were widely accepted among students.

Unfortunately for traditional education, the information age is booming and the Internet has quickly become the preferred means of communication giving online education the ability to be more convent and flexible than ever before, Leading online education to become the preferred means of continued education among working adults 25 and up. Although some students feel that traditional, education is a better quality education we can now see that online education is providing a quality that is comparable to that of traditional. Most would also say that traditional education provides more support due in part to the face-to-face interaction available. While others will argue that online, education simply out shines traditional education when concerning convenience and flexibility. Almost all students agree that the type of educational institution they choose will greatly depend on the integrity and quality of the education offered, the resources and ease of access to those resources, the support available, and the convenience the institute has to offer.
