Research Design and Methodology
This chapter presented the sequential methods followed by the researchers in the entire study. It included the research design, determination of sample size, sampling design and techniques, the subjects / respondents, research instruments, validation of the research instrument, data gathering procedure, data gathering methods and Statistical Treatment.

Research Design
Applied research design was used in the study Electronic Record System in the College of Technical Studies. The descriptive method was employed in the study because the researchers had described that it was the most appropriate method to be used in order to identify what record system could be carried out for the College of Technical Studies. Descriptive research was a type of research that was mainly concerned with describing the nature or condition and the degree in detail of the present situation and explored the cause/s of particular a phenomenon. Since the study was concerned about Electronic Record System for the College of Technical Studies students wherein the researchers studied and described the present situation of the College of Technical Studies. In relation to this, the researchers tried to figure out the problems encountered by the students and personnel so as to lessen these problems and the causes of this phenomenon.

Population and Locale of the Study
Sample size referred to the specific size of the group or groups being studied in the study. The intended sample size was the number of participants planned to be included in the study. Sample size was adequate to provide a high probability of detecting significant size of a given magnitude. The students of the College of Technical Studies had a population of 178 which was composed of 99 students from Automotive Servicing NCII, 47 students from Consumer Electronics Servicing NCII and 32 students from Building Wiring Installation. The researchers determined the sample size of the study through using Slovin’s formula for each department:

Slovin’s formula:
n = N
1+Ne2

Where:
n = number of needed students
N = total population
e = margin of error was 5% (0.5)

The researchers used systematic sampling for its simplicity. Systematic sampling was a way of conducting research that determined how to select members of a population that would be studied. In this technique, the assurance that the population will be evenly sampled can be carried out. The students of the College Of Technical Studies were the respondents in the study. The College of Technical Studies students has a population of 145 students, which was composed of 83 students from Automotive Servicing NCII, 32 students from Consumer Electronics Servicing NCII and 30 students from Building Wiring Installation. The respondents were from the three specifically, Automotive Servicing NCII, Consumer Electronics Servicing NCII and Building Wiring Installation.

Research Instruments
The research instrument used in this study was a survey questionnaire. The draft of the questionnaire was drawn out based on the researchers’ readings, previous studies, and published and unpublished thesis relevant to the study. The main contents of the questionnaire were questions of current system used in the record system and possible problems encountered by students and personnel in the current record system of College of Technical Studies. The researchers also used books and other instructional materials as a basis. The researchers had used computer software and hardware on this study.

Validation of Research Instrument
For validation purposes, the researchers primarily conducted a pre-test using survey questionnaire given to the respondents. These respondents as well as their answers were not part of the actual study process and were only used for testing purposes. After the questionnaires were answered, the researchers asked the respondents for any suggestion, comments or any necessary corrections to further improve the instrument. The researchers modified the content of the questionnaire based on the assessment and suggestion of the sample respondents. The researchers changed ambiguous or difficult terminologies into simpler ones to make the survey more comprehensive for the selected respondents.

Data Gathering Procedure
In data gathering procedure, the first concern of the researchers was to obtain permission from the College of Technical Studies at Philippine College of Science and Technology to conduct the study through asking the Dean of the College. Upon the approval of the Dean, the researchers prepared the questionnaire needed in conducting the study and the questionnaire for the interview. After making the questionnaire, the researchers set a schedule for the floating of questionnaires and conducting of interview. The data gathering was a continuous process for updates until the scheduled oral defense of the researchers.

Statistical Treatment
Upon the retrieval of the entire survey questionnaire from the respondents, the researchers tabulated the data that had been gathered. The researchers used statistics to analyze all the data gathered. Percentage methods will be used for data analysis and the formula was: Percentage (%) = F x 100
