Terrorism in todays world

Terrorism. It is a word that strikes fear into many. Terrorism has been around since the beginning of time, and has caused empires to rise, fall, and allowed people to gain power, Terrorism by nature is difficult to define. Acts of terrorism conjure emotional responses in the victims as well as in the practitioners. No two writers agree on what is terrorism. Even the U.S. government cannot agree on one single definition. The old adage, “One man’s terrorist is another man’s freedom fighter” is still alive and well today (“Terrorism Research Center: Definitions” 1). Although many people believe that terrorism is evil, it is merely misunderstood because there is no set definition. Terrorist are responsible to most of the freedom movements in every country.

Terrorist have used violence to get their point across to the public. These acts are often necessary for the success of the movement or cause. The use of this violence can be justified in several ways. You can’t make an omelet without breaking some eggs has been used by terrorist to describe their actions. Terrorism has been used by governments and against them. It has been used as part of a campaign by guerrillas who have widespread support and by small groups. Terrorism has been used in societies where grievances can be expressed freely and where free speech is suppressed.

Terrorism is a growing problem in this unstable world. A simple act of terrorism can cause tensions to break between two countries, as seen with Israel and Palestineans conflicts due to religious beliefs and territory disputes. Among the various potential threats are wars with neighboring countries, missile attacks on cities, biological and chemical terrorism, suicide bombings, and hostage taking. In an April 1999 survey the most feared terrorism was bombings on US soil. There are many ways to combat terrorism. First, would be an international team that is always on call to respond to terrorist threats, and retrieve hostages with minimal loss of life. The second is gun control, which would limit the weapons accessed by potential terrorists. The last thing is to recognize terrorist organizations before they have a chance to attack. Terrorism has been around since the days of ancient Egypt. People have been killing leaders of countries to try and overthrow the government.

What is to be done about terrorism? There are not easy answers to this question. There are many options and methods to dealing with terrorists that the world has used in the past. At times we have been successful in our efforts and at others we have failed. In Sun Tsu’s book The Art of War, he writes know your enemy, this is the most effective strategy in battle. But does world really know its enemy? Certainly, we have seen pictures of Osama Bin Laden and Yasir Arafat, and we associate them with terror. But these photographs are merely images of evil; they are not the basis of our struggle. To truly understand what we are dealing with we must understand the root of their motives: we must understand terror. To do this we must explore the definition of the word it self, what does it mean and what are the characteristics of terrorism. Then we can trace the historical evolution of terror throughout history starting with the French revolution and ending in the present day. From there we can discuss the motives behind the violence, what leads these groups to such fanatical means and what was their desired goal. In doing this we can more clearly understand the terrorism,

Why do people resort to such violent acts as bombing, assassinations, and hi-jacking? How do individuals and organizations justify these acts of terror. These acts can be described as terrorist actions. Terrorism is an growing international problem. During the last twenty years, new terrorist groups have sprung up al lover the world. Governments have had little success in their attempts to them.It is unlikely that we will ever see and end to terrorism. Terrorists are not born, but created as todays issues of today develop into the conflicts of tommorow.

As no cause can justify terrorism, Likewise nothong can justify ignoring the cause behind terrorism. If we Want this world a peaceful place for human beings we need to think more broad mindedly than we are doing now & its proved uptill now by many ways that just terminating terrorists is not the solution for terrorism, but to solve the reasons behind the terrorist acts.
