A Plastic Material Essay Sample

A plastic material is any of a wide range of synthetic or semi-synthetic organic solids that are moldable. Plastics are typically organic polymers of high molecular mass, but they often contain other substances. They are usually synthetic, most commonly derived from petrochemicals, but many are partially natural.[1] A plastic material is any of a wide range of synthetic or semi-synthetic organic solids that are moldable. Biodegradable plastics are plastics that are capable of being decomposed by bacteria or other living organisms. Two basic classes of biodegradable plastics exist:[1] Bioplastics, whose components are derived from renewable raw materials and plastics made from petrochemicals with biodegradable additives which enhance biodegradation

There are concerns that “Oxo Biodegradable (OBD)” plastic bags may release metals, and may require a great deal of time to degrade in certain circumstances.[8] Furthermore, OBD plastics may produce tiny fragments of plastic that do not continue to degrade at any appreciable rate regardless of the environment

Although few peer-reviewed studies or government surveys have provided estimates for global plastic bag use, environmental activists estimate that between 500 billion and 1 trillion plastic bags are used each year worldwide.[8] In 2009, the United States International Trade Commission reported that 102 billion plastic bags are used annually in the United States alone

It is a compound that is indestructible, even when it is melted the compound gas that is gives off is very harmful to our heath and environment; it weakens the ozone layer. Most plastic is produced from oil. The world is gradually running out of oil. Scientists are now developing plastics that are made from vegetable oil and other organic matter. This means that the plastic is more likely to be degradable, so it will be less of a problem in future

Well plastic bags are extremely hazardous to our planet. When arguing this matter, we should be considerate about the cost and length of time it will take to rcycle the bags and what it will do to our precious environment, which is already in danger due to the other environmental hazards

1. PET (Polyethylene terephthalate) PET is made by condensing ethylene glycol and terephthalic acid. Known as thermoplastic polyester, this substance is able to exist in either an amorphous or highly crystalline state. PET is light, clear or transparent with high gloss (sparkling 'crystal clear'), hard and wear-resistant. It is also a good barrier to gases. Polyethylene (= Polythene) is synthesised from ethylene. It is among...

1.1 Motivation Until the beginning of the nineteenth century, the materials developed, manufactured and used, whether homogeneous or composite, were basically inorganic in nature. Complex organic substances such as coal and oil were subjected to destructive processes to produce simpler chemicals such as coal gas and gasoline. However, during the twentieth century, organic chemists have developed the means of reversing this destructive process and of...

Delta Plastics, Inc.

The director for Delta Plastics, Inc. had to make a decision as pertains to which material to use in the productions of products produced by the company. His decision is based on the defects that happens on the products that are produced using two different types of materials, that is, 'Super Plastic' and standard material. Super plastic products are good over the standard materials...

Production of Biodegradable Plastics from Squash Starch

Due to the overwhelming demand of plastic bag production and its effects on our environment, our landfills are crammed with these non-biodegradable materials. Substances used in the manufacturing brought forth various harmful chemicals which worsen over time. As the destructive compounds such as Chlorofluorocarbons were introduced, the complete deprivation of the Ozone Layer starts. However, scientists and nature preservers alike managed to overthrow this hazard,...

Styro Glue

Pollution is one of the main problems the world faces today. One of the reasons is the overload of non-biodegradable objects like plastics, cans and Styrofoam. The invention of plastics and Styrofoam made a huge change in our society and it helped us in many ways. But it is also one of the main pollutants that destroy our planet. Because of these we devised a...
