A Raisin in the Sun Essay Sample

I am an only child. Some of you will be saying ‘how lucky is he?’ or ask me ‘are you spoilt?’Well obviously I am but I tend to say no. Anyway I have a mum and dad, they are both beloved and appreciated even when we don’t get on well. We aren’t wealthy; we are what some people call ‘average family’. My dad had (he still has but as an electrical wholesaler) a job in a cloths shop with his colleague and was doing well at it, my mum would be at home looking after me and doing well at it too. We lived in a nice home, so I was told by my mum; I only have pictures to remind myself, it was newly built and in the city. My mum often talks about what I use to do when I was little, for example wait at the door for my dad to come home, usually he brought me new toys which lasted a few minutes before it was dismantled or broken. I don’t know why but I’ve always have had a fascination with opening things and putting it back together in working order, just to see how it worked. In cases where I couldn’t open it, I simply broke it open and forgot about fixing it because I didn’t know how to.

About a year after this we moved home with a Pakistani lady who I call aunty. From her it is where I learned to speak and understand Urdu (which I can do very well). My mum and dad are originally from Bangladesh so being able to speak Urdu is a huge advantage over communicating with other non-English speaking Asian people because most of them understand it as opposed to their home language (there would be no point speaking a language to people that doesn’t understand it! So it would be a complete waste of time). Our house had a big garden (because it was on the corner) which I loved to play in. My favourite things to do there is to play with my next door neighbours children (a boy and girl), have water fights and play with mud which got me dirty and in trouble. I can still remember when I dug a so deep that it made a tremendous hole which for some reason couldn’t be refilled so we had to put concrete over it to stop people tripping and getting their foot stuck inside it.

Memories last forever

When I was about 4 or 5 I started school. It was fun because we didn’t have to do any hard work. At break times we had the choice of riding tricycles, scooters or walking on stilts. There was a painted race circuit on the playground which we raced around in great excitement. There also was an enormous sand pit in which we weren’t often allowed to go into it because we use to have sand fights and got into a lot of mess. Sand went into our mouths and shoes. After break we had the choice of having apples and milk or apples and juice which is what we wanted as we were all tired and hot. One day after break these children were trying to complete a puzzle but they couldn’t, later they gave up and went. I saw the puzzle and decided to give it a shot. I put the peaces in carefully and taking my time. I put in the last peace and before I knew it I finished. A few seconds later I was surrounded by teachers, all of them with smiles on their faces. ‘Well done’ a teacher said. I didn’t know why. It’s not as if I’ve never completed a puzzle before. ‘Wow, how did you do that?’ A teacher asked. I didn’t say anything. The reason they got excited was because none of the children have ever completed the puzzle so I was the first. At home time when my mum came to pick me up, the teachers started to compliment me by for example saying ‘your child is very skilful and bright.’ My mum felt really happy and proud after hearing the news.

I was around about the age of 5 when I learned to ride a bike. The bike came from my cousin who had grown out of it so he had decided to give it to me. The thing was I didn’t know how to ride a bike and even more so it didn’t have stabilisers which made it presumably harder. In the evening I practised for about half an hour and at last I got the hang of it. Now I could ride bike!

The youngest exciting memory I have is on my sixth birthday. Back then cards that came with a badge having your age written on it were exciting and a thing to show off with because it was new and unique. We invited family and friends to come along. We did it in the garden because it was big and the weather was perfect. Anyway, on that day my mum and dad gave me the greatest present ever, they gave me an air powered bazooka that shot out foam balls! At that time I was really excited even though I didn’t know how to use it. I think it was the gigantic size and weight of it that made it look so awesome and realistic besides it being multicoloured. In addition to that I also got a tub of Lego. Can you remember how fun it was to make things out of it? I spent hours and hours making things out of it. My favourite thing to do was to see how high I can build a tower and the best bit was destroying it in the most gruesome way possible. It was all a lot of fun and kept me busy for a long time.

A quick story

I was told this story by my mum when I was a little child and I can still remember it now.

One day baby bear asked his mother if they can bake a cake. But there was a problem, they didn’t have the ingredients. So she sent baby bear to the market to get the ingredients. After he came back they started to make it. While the cake was baking in the oven many of the animals came knocking at the door because of the nice smell. Baby bear opened they door ‘can we all please come round to have some of your delicious cake’ asked an animal. Baby bear was surprised to see so many animals. The problem was that they don’t have enough cake to feed the all the animals. So they had an idea. Baby bear told all the animals come back later when the cake was ready in the mean time he told the to freshen themselves up. As the animals left, baby bear and mother bear both decided to eat the cake and go outside and hide above a tree. Knock! Knock! No one was at home. All the animals were wondering were they have gone. ‘They told us to come back later, but where are they?’ asked the animals. Meanwhile baby bear wasn’t feeling well, he had a stomach ache. One of the animals walked right under the tree baby bear was on and sat down beside it. Baby on the other couldn’t take it any longer so he let go and PLOP! PLOP! All over the animals head.

All about me

Right now I am in secondary school and preparing for my G.C.S.E.’s which I am studying for very hard. I have moved into a new home. Only two roads away from where I lived before. I have done my SATS and am awaiting the results. Right now I’d say I have a better understanding of things and have learnt lots of new things. I’m not so worried about my appearance much but I do like to do things fancy sometimes just for laughs. My favourite things I like to do are going on my computer to play games, listen to music, films and go on the internet. My dislikes are rock music, drama and exams. My frights are small insects especially spiders because they might go into my ears or nose, snails and other animals without legs. In my life I have accomplished many things for example build a computer. Some of you might think it’s hard but it really isn’t. I can do practically anything on a computer. That brings me to my next point.

Future ambitions:

My future ambition is to run a successful business in the computer industry or even grow wealthy like Bill Gates. To do this I want to go all the way to university (Cambridge or oxford if I’m lucky) to study computing, get good degrees to start a small business and start increasing my business until it is a huge enterprise. In the future I would want to learn to fly a helicopter and an aeroplane so I can be proud of myself for being able to do so much in my lifetime. I would also like to have a big mansion with a huge garden for sports and productivity and a huge collection of expensive cars.

And remember every one has dreams; it is just the matter of time till it comes true.
