It is not unusual for clients to receive standardized test results and be confused by or misinterpret the data presented. For this assignment, you will examine two case scenarios with two different clients, both of whom are dissatisfied or upset with the test results they received. For each case scenario, you will write a response that explains how you would address each client’s concern. Do not write a hypothetical counseling session between yourself and the client. Accurately explain to the client how to properly interpret these standardized test results.

In order to complete this assignment, you will apply the knowledge you have gained in this class thus far. Write down all of the information presented in each scenario.

First scenario: Does anything stand out as you review the context? Is there anything in the client’s current circumstances (see your list) that would influence the test results? Assess whether the results may or may not be accurate. What are your recommendations to the client?

Second scenario: The process is simpler. How are achievement test scores reported? Does the client understand the meaning of the scores? What are your recommendations to the client?

This assignment must be no more than 1½ pages (not including title page and/or reference page if needed). Use APA formatting for the font, title/reference page, margins, section headings, etc.

Contemplate how you would discuss the following situations. Write a narrative of what you would communicate to each client.

1.The client is a 17-year-old male high school student who has been in counseling for three sessions. The presenting concern was related to stress and insomnia. The client reports he is feeling a lot of stress related to his schoolwork and keeping up his grades as well as his participation in team sports. The client has never received less than an A in any class since entering high school and takes mostly honors-level courses. The client plans to attend Yale University (both his parents are Yale graduates). He enters the fourth counseling session visibly upset and announces to the counselor that his SAT scores were 550 for the Critical Reading section, 520 for the Mathematics section, and 560 for the Writing section. He is concerned that he will not be accepted to Yale with such low SAT scores.

2.The client is the mother of a nine-year-old female. The client’s daughter is in fourth grade and recently took the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills, a survey achievement test, with the following scores:

AreaPercentile
Reading55
Language57
Mathematics48

The client is very upset about her daughter’s performance and tells the counselor that she thought the child should have done better. She is concerned that her daughter has fallen behind her peers and possibly has a learning disorder.
