Introduction of TOPIC
* An airline provides air transport services for passengers or freight, generally with a recognized operating certificate or license. Airlines lease or own their aircraft with which to supply these services and may form partnerships or alliances with other airlines for mutual benefit. * Airlines vary from those with a single aircraft carrying mail or cargo, through full-service international airlines operating hundreds of aircraft. Airline services can be categorized as being intercontinental, intra continental, domestic, or international and may be operated as scheduled services or charters. * Full-service airlines have a high level of fixed and operating costs in order to establish and maintain air services: labor, fuel, airplanes, engines, spares and parts, IT services and networks, airport equipment, airport handling services, sales distribution, catering, training, aviation insurance and other costs. Thus all but a small percentage of the income from ticket sales is paid out to a wide variety of external providers or internal cost centers.
* Groups such as the International Civil Aviation Organization establish worldwide standards for safety and other vital concerns. Most international air traffic is regulated by bilateral agreements between countries, which designate specific carriers to operate on specific routes. The model of such an agreement was the Bermuda Agreement between the US and UK following World War II, which designated airports to be used for transatlantic flights and gave each government the authority to nominate carriers to operate routes. * Bilateral agreements are based on the “freedoms of the air,” a group of generalized traffic rights ranging from the freedom to overfly a country to the freedom to provide domestic flights within a country (a very rarely granted right known as cabotage). Most agreements permit airlines to fly from their home country to designated airports in the other country: some also extend the freedom to provide continuing service to a third country, or to another destination in the other country while carrying passengers from overseas.
* In the 1990s, “open skies” agreements became more common. These agreements take many of these regulatory powers from state governments and open up international routes to further competition. Open skies agreements have met some criticism, particularly within the European Union, whose airlines would be at a comparative disadvantage with the United States’ because of cabotage restrictions. * The International Air Transport Association (IATA) is an international industry trade group of airlines headquartered in Montreal, Quebec,Canada, where the International Civil Aviation Organization is also headquartered. IATA’s mission is to represent, lead, and serve the airline industry. IATA represents some 230 airlines comprising 93% of scheduled international air traffic. The Director General and Chief Executive Officer is Giovanni Bisignani. Currently, IATA is present in over 150 countries covered through 101 offices around the globe. IATA’s stated mission is to represent, lead and serve the airline industry. All the Airline rules and regulations are defined by IATA. The main aim of IATA is to provide safe and secure transportation to its passengers.
* Arms and legs of an Airline Industry:
Customers : The customers of the airline industry can be of three main types. They can be either from travel types, cargo/freight types or from defense. The travel industry forms the major revenue generator for the airline industry so the need of the database maintenance grew with it.
Management: With the expansion of the airline industry the management of the industry became a prime requirement. If the management fails the industry will suffer serious losses. Management section includes the management from airline traffic to the customer care to the database management.
Maintenance: The maintenance is another important factor in the successful working of this industry. It is not just important but the essential factor for the flight safety and customer satisfaction.
Vendors: The vendors are the Aircraft manufacturers, accessories manufacturers and the last but not the least the air traffic fuel(ATF) suppliers. The fuel is the blood line of the airline industry and the airline industry has to deal continuously with the fuel vendors which is unlike the aircraft manufacturer’s dealing. Similarly the accessories suppliers are the regular suppliers to the industry.

The customers must use the air travel or freight shipment as the main product apart from other plans that come time to time and can change the nature of the main product through some additional features. D. Airline industry must have a required number of the staff to manage the safe and smooth flow of the flights. E. There must be a database management team to handle the database system which is the backbone of the organization. F. The airline must have a vendor who will supply the company with the aircraft if there is a requirement and a vendor who will supply the Air Traffic Fuel(ATF). There must be vendors who will supply the airline with the catering products and other accessories used in the aircraft and in the ground management. G. There must be a maintenance division in the airline company that will take care of the aircrafts and the database.
* Function Rules:
A. The customer must either be of the travel type or the Cargo type. a) The customer must be of the travel type. She/he must have a place of departure and a place of destination. b) The customer should pay in advance via the PayPal, credit card or Cash at any authorized center of the airline company c) The customer must have a limited amount of baggage with him. d) An extra baggage must be charged extra at the time of boarding. e) The cargo/freight type customer must be the postal service or any courier service that has an accord with the airline company. f) The freight will be charged as per the weight at the time of boarding. B. The customers should be entertained by the customer care or the travel agent for any flight related issues. a. There must be a point of contact for the customers with the company. b. The customers who book online can access the online customer care by visiting the company site. c. The customers can also talk to the customer care at the phone or visit any authorized dealer by the company.
C. The customers must use the air travel or freight shipment as the main product apart from other plans that come time to time and can change the nature of the main product through some additional features. a. An individual will be a customer if she/he buys the air travel service or freight shipment from the company. b. The customer may use other services provided by the company like the catering service. c. The individual will be charged for the extra services that he relishes during his or her flight. D. Airline industry must have a required number of the staff to manage the safe and smooth flow of the flights. a. The airline must have sufficient ground and air staff to manage the successful working of the airline. b. There must be a specific number of flight crew always on each flight. c. There must be a specific number of the staff always on the ground duty. d. There must be the sufficient customer care agents always on the calls to save the time of customers and provide them with the information that they need as soon as possible.
E. There must be a database management team to handle the database system which is the backbone of the organization. a. There should always be the database administrators available for the maintenance of the database and the sufficient people to support him in IT department. b. The database should always be backed up at some other location on case or any breakdown. F. The airline must have a vendor who will supply the company with the aircraft if there is a requirement and a vendor who will supply the Air Traffic Fuel(ATF). There must be vendors who will supply the airline with the catering products and other accessories used in the aircraft and in the ground management. a. The airlines must have a vendor who will supply the airline company with the ATF. The vendor will be an energy company or a fossil fuel corporation.
b. The company should maintain the specific amount of reserves of fuel at every port. c. There must be another vendor to the company who will supply the company with the aircrafts when the need is felt. d. There must be an active vendor who will supply the company with the parts and accessories necessary for the airplanes and other inventory. e. There must be a catering vendor for the airlines who will fulfill the catering needs of the company. f. There might be the possibility of the Database or IT vendor for the company who will take care of the Data of the company.(The possibility of this is minimal due to data security issues.) H. There must be a maintenance division in the airline company that will take care of the aircrafts. a. The maintenance team will be from the Aircraft supplier and the airline itself. b. No airline shall be authorized without the green signal from the maintenance team before every takeoff. c. The team members will have to fill in the log table in case of any technical default.
