Worldwide, most students attend either single-sex schools or co-ed schools. Is there a difference? Close analysis of both systems of schooling shows that in terms of social, academic and emotional growth, co-ed schools are better.

Firstly, it is important to explore the advantages and disadvantages of both systems. Co-ed school provides a superb environment and opportunity for both sexes to mix, for example, boys and girls get to learn together in key learning area from maths to food tech. As a result, male students (or vice versa), girls may become more confident and comfortable in dealing with the opposite sex without being shy or embarrassed.

Another reason why co-ed schools are more exceeding than single sexed school is because it mimics or mirrors the ‘real’ world where both sexes mix, for example, whether you are working in a store or in an corporate office, you are in an assorted place of mixed sexes. If there is no segregation, then why have it at school?

Additionally, co-ed schools promote the need to get along with each other which can avoid sexism and discrimination in the future. It teaches students that they are equal, have the same right and the opportunity to reach their potential.

Furthermore, co-ed schools allow students to learn from each other and of the opposite sex. For instance, male students who are interested in cooking might learn from his fellow female classmate while a girl might learn the skill of woodwork form a male student.

Moreover, to help develop boys and girls academically in safe environment, co-ed schools offer a wider range of subjects to cater both sexes and their interests and provide extra curriculum activities.

Also, co-ed schools allow great opportunities for boys and girls to learn about relationship on a day to day basis.

As opposed to single-sex schools, other reasons why co-ed schools are better is because single sex schools fail in the following areas: These include the macho behaviors in boys schools, the spitefulness of girl schools, the limitation of the range of subjects and the lack of social skill that can be learn because of limited contact with the opposite sex.

In conclusion, many thinks that single sexed school may be better than co-ed schools but a deep exploration of both systems shows that co-ed school and in terms of social, academic and emotional development, co-ed schools outstrip others
