Introduction of TOPIC

Hardware

The hardware that I am using shall be a monitor, a mouse, a keyboard and a central processing unit, (CPU). I shall also be using a printer. The mouse is an input devise, which shall help me move around the software that shall be using. The keyboard is also input devise that shall be used to put information into the central processing unit. The printer which I am using is an output devise, to print out my ruff work and my final coursework (Magazine).

If I had access to any thing I would use a scanner, as I can use this input devise to scan information into the computer, quickly. If I didn’t have this devise I would have to write up all information by hand, which would be time consuming. I would also have a colour printer, as my coursework is full of colours and has many affects like faded text and distorted pictures.

Software

The software that I am going to use is Microsoft publisher. The reason that I shall be using Microsoft publisher is manly the features, as the pictures can have special affects such as fading and colour to greyscale controls, and can be changed easily and affectively. This is only some of the features that Microsoft publisher can offer a user. If Microsoft publisher didn’t have these features then it would take along time to change my magazine design, and the impact that pictures give to the consumer.

Microsoft publisher also can create charts at a click of a button that are 100% accurate. If this function didn’t exist, people would have to draw out charts by hand; this would be time consuming, not so neat for the consumer see and if you draw a chart by hand its easy to go wrong.

Another good thing about Microsoft publisher is that after you have finished your magazine you can rearrange things, colour in empty spaces, and add borders; Subsequently making your work neater and more presentable. With out Microsoft publisher you would have to redo your whole design by hand several times till you can see the optimum layout.

Also Microsoft publisher is quick and easy to use and can shed a lot of time where normally people would have to do time consuming tasks such as drawing pictures.

I shall also be using Microsoft word. The main reason that I am using Microsoft Word is that if you make a spelling error it will show you and help you to correct your work. The other main advantage is that all mistakes can be changed quickly as the work is not a hard copy. If I didn’t have this then after every mistake you would have to rewrite your work, if you wanted to make your work neat and presentable.

* Page 6 shall be a basic guide on how to customise your drum kit.

* Page 7 shall be based on the competition called “Drum off” in the article it shall give a brief description of what it is about and how you can enter it.

Method of collection

Drum kits for sale – I shall achieve this by researching on the internet and in other magazines to find drum kits that are on sale.

Justin Foley information – To find out information about Justin Foley I read his autobiography and then followed it up by doing research on the internet.

Drum off competition – Getting facts on this competition was hard, so I stuck entirely to the internet searching on “Google” for appropriate web sites.

Method of data entry

I will type up all the information on my keyboard, (this is an input devise), that has been received by my research. The information that I find from the internet, I shall cut and past, as it is quick and easy. After that I shall edit my data so it fits my needs better.

Process

* Layering – I shall use this function so that my pictures and writing appear to have more depth.

* Rotation – I shall use this so that my pictures are more interesting.

* Fade – I shall use this feature on my title so that you can see the picture bellow it as well as its self.

* Brightness – I shall use this function so that I can dull some pictures.

* Word art – I shall use this as it can make text look more interesting and attract the attention of the eye.

Output

The output devise that I shall be manly using is a monitor-based for all my spread sheets as they are to big too big to print off. However I will print of a final finance sheet that shows where all the money is being spent in different areas. Ten I shall copy this and send it out to all residents to see if they approve of my financing ideas.

Backup and security

Computer security is the protection of hardware, software and most importantly data. Data takes a lot of time to collect, and is worth a lot of money. If a business where to lose its data many problems can occur like:

* Loss of customer goodwill.

* Late delivery of goods.

* Bad decision making.

* Adverse publicity.

* Cash flow problems.

There are three main types of physical security:

Prevention from theft – Securing the building with locks and alarms.

Keeping records.

Having removable hard drives that can be locked away.

Keeping backups in off-site facilities.

Protection from fire – Smoke detector.

Inert gas flooding anti-fire systems.

Fireproof doors.

Sprinklers.

Protection from the environment – Moisture Control.

Air filters to clean out dust.

Computers can protect themselves from viruses by updating firewalls and network sweeps. A firewall stops a virus from hacking into sort ware, and a network sweep goes through files looking for any viruses that got passed the firewall. Another way for computers to protect themselves from viruses is to backup files. But if you want to have a really safe backup, it is a good idea to save the copy onto a separate network. Another reason to back up a file is because of human errors, and due to the fact that hard drives can fail, this happens on average every 27 months. Files can also be protected by using passwords, and restricting access. A good way of protecting a file is to save a copy onto a hard copy such as a memory stick or a floppy disk.

Encrypting files is very useful as it can stop people from viewing your data who are not authorised, only users that have key codes can view the data. Encryption is most useful when sending data over a WAN system. Encryption is often used with online businesses to protect customer’s confidential financial data.

My computer will be secure as I have a personal password, which protects all my software. To be more secure I would have to install a firewall and a new security system, but this is not allowed on school computers. Instead of this I save my work on a password protected memory stick.

The Discourse of Feminity Promoted in Cosmopolitan

The discourse of femininity constructed by Cosmopolitan magazine through the study of the model reader reveals women to be: skinny, beautiful, blonde, Caucasian, tanned, tall and with an unblemished complexion. Although the 'ideal' woman constructed by this magazine mostly consists of physical attributes, Cosmopolitan also asserts them to be independent and upbeat with sex appeal to boot. The predominantly 'beautiful' female presented in this very popular magazine is often destructive of women's self-identity, causing them to be vulnerable to outside approval. The magazine constructs this version of femininity through the cover, editorial and advertising content. The analysis of Cosmopolitan reveals the way the model reader influences the magazines discourse of femininity.
