Would people from different cultures have similar ways of living? While Canada is considered to be a recent civilization, India is an ancient one. Therefore, both countries have different cultures and ways of living. Some major cultural differences people tend to contrast between cultures are their food, clothing and life styles. The food in both of the countries is very different. People in India prefer home cooked meals prepared by their mothers or wives. Indian food has many spices which make it very flavourful. In many parts of this country, people are vegetarian due to religious preferences. In India, there are many dishes for different occasions and festivals. In different parts of this country, there are diverse cuisines according to each religion and culture. Indians live to eat, and enjoy their food very much with their families. In contrast, Canadian people prefer fast food, frozen food, and canned food. Since Canadians have busy scheduled lives, they prefer foods that are easy to put together. The Canadian population is widely multicultural. Therefore, a lot of foods in Canada, such as pizza, tacos and nachos, have been adopted from other countries.

Canadians prefer cuisine that is mild in taste with few distinct flavours. Another major cultural difference between the two countries is the clothing. The clothing people wear in India is conservative. The women in India wear clothing that does not reveal the sexually attractive parts of their body. The men prefer clothing that is comfortable for the warm tropical climate. Indians wear light material clothing on a daily basis. According to the occasion, they wear different kinds of clothing. The clothing worn at weddings and festivals is heavy in weight and has intricate bead and thread work. Their attire is very elegant, charming and colourful. In the event of a death of a loved one, they wear black or white colours. In India, the colour white is considered to be pure and divine. In contrast, Canadian people like to wear clothing that tends to be provocative. Since Canada has subzero temperatures during the winter, the people wear clothing that keep them warm. The clothing in Canada often tends to be simple. Black and white colours are often worn at the workplace and are considered to be professional. Lastly, Indians and Canadians have different life styles. Indians are very family oriented and prefer living in joint families.

There are innumerable festivals and ceremonies that they celebrate with their families. The festivals and ceremonies are made to be complex with many rituals and customs. Indians love to dance. In most celebrations, the families can be seen dancing together. In India, the men tend to be the bread winners and most of the women are house wives. Indians often have marriages arranged for them by their parents. In contrast, Canadian people prefer privacy. After turning eighteen they live away from their parents. In Canada, there are few festivals celebrated by all and they do not involve many rituals or customs. Both men and women of this country work and take care of their responsibilities evenly. Canadians believe in falling in love and choosing their own partners. In conclusion, people from different cultures do not have similar ways of living. There will always be some cultural differences between India and Canada such as the food, clothing and life styles. The cultural differences will always remain between the two countries because of the way people live their lives.
