In this world of millennium, technology has been taking over the world drastically which inevitably has upgraded the level of photography. Even so, some of the old photos remain as one of the treasures of the world, valuable for the people to stare and wonder to themselves all of their reminiscence of lives. Vintage photos have always been a minority in life but it actually play a significant role, especially on students’ emotions. The three effects of vintage photos on students’ emotions are students become motivated, they are more expressive and they are more appreciative of God’s creations. One of the effects of vintage photos on students’ emotions is they become motivated and courageous. Psychologically, vintage photos could affect their performance in studies, whether it accelerate or decelerate. This could be possible because a photo worth a thousand words. In every captured picture, there is always a story behind them, that it contains the memories of people, in every corner of their lives, anytime, anywhere. According to Lynn Johnson (1984), she found a ten-year-old, Kenny Easterday who was born handicapped.

He used a skateboard and artificial legs to move from town to town, showing people that he can be independent even if he lacks ability to move, this picture itself shows how an individual can live his life to the fullest with effort without relying on people. Furthermore, the effects in vintage photos show the significance of life, this is because the subliminal messages in every vintage photo could be so valuable that it shows the wonders of life, it portrays how human live their lives, in bad or good condition, how they face reality and how they perceive it. According to Abgail Heyman (1974), he was visiting a psychiatric ward when Kate Barton struck him with a symbol of no one knows what age they will return. During that moment, the story tells that Kate Barton lost her child, but she could not accept that fact. The photo shows how life can affect one’s behaviour and attitude. Another effect of vintage photos on students’ emotions is they intend to become more expressive and tend to appreciate the past memories. Vintage photos have the power to trigger one’s emotions so that they’ll express it to show whether they are happy or sad, angry or frustrated, depends on the pictures themselves; this is because usually vintage photos would make students remember the past.

This is common as the vintage effects in a photo can connect students with the past that makes them more expressive than ever. This can make them either more thrilling or exciting, that they’ll feel the melodramatic of life, not only theirs but other people. Virginia Woolf (1954) states that the past time has its own chapter, friends can only read the title but the story is known to the person by heart, which means that no one can predict the human emotions inside oneself, and also the story behind one’s face. Moreover, vintage photos could make students realize that they are able to learn a lesson from the past lives. Aside from just stories in vintage photos, it could also teach them something important, of the good and the evil, justice and injustice, perfect and imperfection of all the flaws in the book of human history. On certain times it teaches them something that they may never realize, for example, the histories of the World War I and World War II, of how the soldiers tried so hard just to live so they have to fight to get it. Ralph Blum (1995) indicates that the new beginning comes from the obstacles of the past. If something brings them down, they have to take it as the positive thing and move on. The message is to tell the world that no matter how rough the journey of life is, everyone has to move ahead to the future and learn to be better.

The last effect of vintage photos on students’ emotions is students will appreciate the beauty and creations of God. When the students are more appreciative of God’s creations, they tend to share it with the people around them, starting with their friends. Thus, they use the technology to spread it throughout the world. The media, such as the internet, can provide so many spaces for them to upload vintage photos, like how we have it today, Instagram. It often shows that they believe the others will appreciate the exquisiteness of God’s universe if they share it through such channel because the magnificence that is displayed by a vintage photo would be more valuable when are shared with the others. Besides that, students will appreciate the creations of God by preserving the environment. Most of the vintage photos show them the splendour of panorama, and it is best to keep them out of harms’ way, for instance, water, soil and air pollutions.

They would realize that the world’s beauty is decorated by such colourful scenery, therefore, they would try their best to uphold this beauty and they would participate in a campaign to conserve the green surroundings. Albert Einstein (n.d.) notes that one has to free themselves by widening their compassion to embrace the beauty of nature and all living creatures. In conclusion, vintage photos should be use to portray the brilliance of the history and the Mother Nature. Students’ emotions are influenced by the vintage photos by making them become motivated, more expressive and they will appreciate more of the God’s creations. It is their responsibility to make sure that the vintage photos won’t be misused by the hands of the irresponsible. Vintage photos are one of the mediums that consist the elements that explain the atmosphere that would make students become more aware of the situation around them and to think more of what’s happening to the world itself.
