A successful organizations like BBC exploit the strengths more than just focus on weaknesses. This process is not only about fixing the things that are wrong, but also works on to nurturing what is right. On the other hand, oopportunities and threats are the external trends which influence the organization. These are mainly categorized into political, economic, social, technological, demographic, and legal; or shortly (PESTDL) forces.
In order to evaluate the development and strategic management, which influenced by its environment, it is necessary to discuss about strategic planning, mission, vision, values and so on. I will choose British Broadcasting Corporation as a particular large company. The BBC is really committed to achieving its objectives, values and purposes in an environmentally sound and sustainable manner.
It goals to minimize any adverse impact on the environment from its activities and it works to continuously improve its environmental performance. The social factors involve such as the beliefs, values, legality, morality attitudes, opinions, and lifestyles of persons in the BBC’s external environment these developed from cultural, ecological, religious, demographic, educational, and ethnic conditioning.
A strategic planning determines that where an organization is going over the next year or more and it’s going to get there. It also deals how it’ll know if it got there or not. A strategic plan is the process by which summarizes of developing and maintaining a strategic fit between the organization’s goals and capabilities and its chinging markating opportunities.Its main aim to trying to accomplish something. It involves difining a dynamic company mission,vission, setting others supporting aim and objectives.It also planning a sound business portfelio,detering its goal, and trying to coordinating functional strategis.Objectives will be more specific, measurable, achievable and timely.
Background and history:
The BBC exists to enrich the lives people with great programs and services that inform, educate, and entertain. Our vision is to be the most creative and trusted organization in the world. The environmental management is integral to the vision and the performance. BBC’s overall objective is to carry its operations in a way, which manages, minimizes any adverse environmental impact and it demonstrates pollution prevention.
To getting a clear knowledge of environment and dynamics of an organization like BBC, it is necessary to look at both internal and external environment of the organization and these will add valuable information to the situation assessment. The SWOT is a technique, a very simple and really effective vehicle for collecting information about environment. It helps to focus the process by breaking it down mainly into four broad categories:
- S – Deals with the internal Strengths of the organization.
- W – Deals with the internal Weaknesses of the organization.
- O – Deals with the external Opportunities of the organization.
- T – Deals with the external Threats of the organization.
Now is the time to evaluating an organization’s general strengths and weaknesses which specific to each of its programs, typically includes assessments of:
- Capabilities of the staff and the board: We are in the midst of making complex changes to the way the BBC operates to help deliver savings it need to invest in the digital future. This kinds process has inevitably put pressure on everyone who is working here. To give extra facilities BBC provide an improved working environment
- Programs quality: . But what this review highlights is the undiminished commitment of its staff to improving our environmental impacts by challenging every aspect of the way we make programes and content. This interim report, together with the CSR Report for 2005, reflects what is already being done. It promotes a culture of environmental awareness across the BBC. So that it becomes embedded as very good practice.
- It consider both the organization and individual’ programs reputation: Its always take care regarding this subject.
- The management information as well as and financial systems: It provides a range of associated programmes for example Birdsong Guide, Spring Trilogy, Living World, and a Woman’s Hour special on how weather affects wildlife, all on to the Radio 4. The BBC’s Video Nation scheme permitted people to contribute by producing their own breathing space video that can be viewed on the (VNO) Video Nation website. These activities were supported by a range of partner organisations and from, the Big Lottery Fund to local businesses, wildlife trusts to local authorities

We may say the company’s microenvironment. Strengths and weaknesses are essentially concerning to the internal organization and matters related to the resources, programs, costs, and organization in key areas. These include:
- Sales to marketing, distribution, promotion, and support,
- Management with systems, expertise and resources,
- Operations including efficiency, capacity, and processes,
- Products, services, quality, pricing, features, range and competitiveness,
- Finances, resources and performance,
- R&D, effort, direction, and resources,
- Costs, productivity and purchasing,
- System, organization, and structures.
The strengths and weaknesses are related mainly to the promoter(s), who experience, expertise and management abilities – other than to the project, if a start-up is being planned.
Supply Chain: Through the BBC’s Purchasing Policy, it will influence the suppliers of services & resources to adopt best environmental practices. BBC is committed to procure goods from sustainable sources. BBC also takes special care to increase the proportion of timber as well as paper products obtained from certified and reported sources and well-managed forests and through recycling.
The External Environment:
On the other hand, oopportunities and threats are the external trends which influence the organization. These are mainly categorized into political, economic, social, technological, demographic, and legal; or shortly (PESTDL) forces. We may say the company’s macro-environment. These external forces include client needs, environment, market findings, competitors and rules and regulation, circumstances such as changing technology, for increased competition, changing values, regulations, and so on. They can either help an organization to run forward (opportunities) or may hold an organization back (threats), but opportunities that are ignored can become threats, and threats that are dealt with appropriately can be turned into opportunities.
Opportunities and threats are deals external environment to the BBC: identify these, take advantage of the opportunities, and counter the threats.
BBC has sparked a series of mass audience participation activities around the world conservation of landscape and wildlife. And under the wider multi-media campaign Breathing Space, the long-term aim is to mobilise a million people to significantly increase the UK ‘s wildlife friendly green spaces, heighten awareness & understanding of nature, literally create breathing spaces for people and wildlife.
To engage large amount of people requires a sustained, cross platform approach, which joined up messages across radio, television, and the Internet. Audiences could directly participate in a national mapping survey and access further information and message boards through the Spring watch Survey 2005 on bbc.co.uk.
In aspects of British Broadcasting Corporation, I will consider following thinks, same time I will discuss each points, merits and demerits, a brief update on some of its recent activities, recent performance and our progress against environmental targets.
I. Political and Legal:
Political and legal impact is very important to discuss its development and its environment has influenced strategic management. The boundaries of BBC can operate are frequently set out by legislation. They can legally put into their news to the newsroom by their employees are allowed to work in. But it natural broadcasting these news some-times create political problem. Pressure groups and other inquiry commission campaign directly to change legislation and also work indirectly to change the political environment. But a positive side pressure groups, to force government to protect their entrenched positions, and are few very successful.
Here we can consider the Hutton Inquiry and the butler inquiry. However first we discuss about the Hutton Inquiry. The task was to investigate surrounding circumstances of Dr Kelly’s death .He was a highly respected senior govt. scientist and chief weapons inspectors in Iraq. In may 2003, Andrew Gilligan, a journalist of BBC, broadcast news, which goes against Dr Kelly and the govt. complained to the BBC about the broadcast that news.
Sustainable Buildings: BBC aims to improve their working environments, offices and interior design, special computer room, and workplaces, to provide comfortable, healthy, efficient, and sustainable buildings.
Some of the theory of marketing is shared with other academic disciplines, or to be at least appears. Transport: It is implement environmentally friendly transport plans, addressing commuting and business travel. It’s aimed at contributing to the reduction in road congestion and environment pollution.
Cultural traditions are not easily changed, but over the years without the organizations noticing, they can change quite significantly. From the era 1970s to the Millennium, the role of woman in society at work changed dramatically and no longer could be the stereotypical housewife. BBC works for development for the women by organised program, effective news, and other initiatives. They was changed out of all recognition for example educational, mental, physical and so on.
After past two decades, there have major changes in a number of areas of the overall socio-cultural environment. By Information Revolution in particular had a measurable impact on the patterns of employment, with economists pointing to a degree of structural unemployment caused by its progress. It is arguable, though, that the social effects of this particular revolution will dominate many of the changes in society over coming to the two decades.
Technological Revolution has been a number of predictions to made change about the society. This is one of the most influential concerning the development of the society.
Some changes which are totally predictable. The most obvious, possibly the most important, are those resulting from demography. BBC work the baby boom of the 1960s, and the subsequent dramatic decline in birth rates, have produced very different cohorts of population, and with accompanying (totally predictable) changes in earnings and consumption.
