Being a teenager can be a lot of fun. There are new and interesting people to meet, a wide variety of exiting challenges, and the pleasure that comes with greater freedom and increased responsibility. In educational institutions, success is measured by academic performance, or how well a student meets standard set out by local government and the institution itself. As career competition grows ever more fierce in the working world. the importance of students doing well in school has caught the intentions of parents, legislators and government education departments alike. In the past, academic performance was often measured more by ear than today. Teachersā€™ observation made up the bulk of assessment, and todayā€™s summation, or numerical, method of determining how well a student is performing is a fairly recent invention. Grading system came into existence in America in the late Victorian period, and were initially criticize due to high subjectivity. Different teachers valued different aspects of learning more highly than others, and although some standardization was attempted in order to make the system more fair, the problem continued today, changes have been made to incorporate differentiation for individual students’ abilities, and exploration of alternate methods of measuring performance is ongoing.

And sometimes, this exploration to certain things affects not only their personal life but also their education life. Affecting the performance of the students, there are two groups of students as generally perceive those who improve and those who donā€™t improve. This study can contribute to find out the factors which are responsible for studentā€™s inelastic behavior towards study along with identifying those factors, which help a student to make progress in his studies. This study focuses on investigating the factors affecting their performance. The researcher adapted the Systems theory input-output model advanced by Ludwig Von Bertalanffy in the early 1950s. This theory, according to Koontz and Weirich (1988) postulates that an organized enterprise does not exist in a vacuum but is dependant on its external environment thus the enterprise receives inputs, transforms them and exports the output to the environment.

In this study the university admits students (inputs) and then transforms them through teaching and learning which is reflected by the studentsā€™ academic performance (output). Many empirical studies are carried out to explore factors affecting college studentsā€™ performance. The focus of this research is that student performance in intermediate examination is associated with studentsā€™ profile consisted of his attitude towards attendance in classes, time allocation for studies, parentsā€™ level of income, motherā€™s age and motherā€™s education. The research is based on student profile developed on the bases of information and data collected through survey from students of a group of private colleges. Public sector educational institutions are not the focus of this study.

Statement of the Problem
We will tackle here how these factors affect the studentā€™s academic performance, and to understand the relationship of the factors determined to the students and their performance. 1.What are the factors that affect the studentā€™s academic performance? 2. How are we going to identify these factors?

3. How do this factors affect the students?
4. Do this factors really affect the studentā€™s academic performance?

Significance of the Study
A lot of research has been done on factors affecting academic performance of high school students but there is scarce information about academic performance of students at Sta. Teresa College. The study will enable the researcher to make recommendations Sta. Teresa College policy makers especially those in the Quality Assurance unit, the Central Academic office and the Ministry of Education and Sports on what policies and strategies can be employed to improve academic performance in institutions of higher learning. The findings will help the STC Admissionā€™s Board to review its methods of admitting students in order to improve academic performance. The report will also be a source of reference for other researchers intending to study academic performance of Sta. Teresa College students.

Scope and Limitations
The study was conducted at Sta. Teresa College in Bauan, STC, using correlation design and a sample of first year, second and final year students selected from all the faculties at STC. The content scope covered factors such as admission points, socio-economic status and school background which affect academic performance of undergraduate students. The study covered the period of academic year 2011/2012 and 2012/2013.

CHAPTER II
REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

Purpose of the Study
As a researcher, the main purpose of the study is to know the factors that affect the academic performance of students. In addition, this paper aims to provide encouragement and motivation to all students especially those who are financially distressed to pursue and finish a college degree in order to be competitive in the future and be able to realize their goals and aspirations. It may also provide learning experiences and information to other students. The purpose of this study can help us determine the factors that affect the studentā€™s performance in their school. This study can help and recommend the students to lessen the effect of the factors and increase the positive performance of the students. Review of literature will also be carried out under outlined topics; ā€¢Parental attitudes and encouragement toward schools

ā€¢The effect of the size of the family on studentsā€™ performance in school. ā€¢The effect of the income of the parents on studentsā€™ performance in school. ā€¢The effect of occupation of the parents on studentsā€™ performance in school. ā€¢The effect of the Pattern of child rearing and discipline at home on studentsā€™ performance in school. ā€¢The effect of the availability of adequate educational facilities at home on studentsā€™ performance. Review of Literature All of the research reviews support the hypothesis that student performance depends on different socio-economic, psychological, environmental factors. The findings of research studies focused that student performance is affected by different factors such as learning abilities because new paradigm about learning assumes that all students can and should learn at higher levels but it should not be considered as constraint because there are other factors like race, gender, sex that can affect studentā€™s performance.

Some of the researchers even tried to explain the link between studentā€™s achievements, economic circumstances and the risk of becoming a drop-out that proved to be positive. From the score of the respondents, it is evident that the home/family contributed a lot to the academic performance of the students. According to Sprint hall (1981), parents provide home for the head start of children and the material for learning, when a child is deprived of the essential needs he may be found to perform poorly in his schoolwork. This to a large extent affects the psychological balance or homeostatic balance in the classroom, which causes low concentration, low perception frustration, sickness and emotional disability in academic performance of the students.

CHAPTER III
METHODOLOGY

Research Design
Researchers made use the analytical method, more specifically descriptive form of research for them to have a better understanding about the information given and for them to easily name all the things which are concerned in their research. This method helped them to give emphasis to the subject they are dealing with. And with this kind method, the researchers were able to figure out the real meaning of their study and all the possible information to complete the study.

Subject of the Study
Researchers are making research which discusses on how this factors affect the studentā€™s performance on school. It shows how students undergo on different kinds of academical activities they undergone on school. This kind of research will somehow help the students of Sta. Teresa college to be more active on school and pursue their dreams to be more successful on their chosen career.

Data Gathering Procedure
Before they came up with this study, researchers made some research and investigation to gather all the reliable and significant information the essential to their study. They visited some libraries to have the desired information. Researchers looked for some books and journals which have the information they wanted and magazines for some articles related to their study. Researchers also acquired information from different web sites in the Internet.
