English speech

In a world where most of us are caught up in our own struggle to be successful we forget the most important people who got us where we are now, the people who gave us the confidence to conquer the world. But most of all we tend to forget the people who brought us into this world. Family! It is one of the most important aspects of a person’s life. The value of families.

What are family values?

Family values definition consists of ideas passed down from generation to generation. One of the most important family values is the importance of a strong family bond. Family bonds are a link to our beginning and a guide to our future. We all want to “belong” and feel accepted. From trusting that someone will pick us up when we fall, as a child, to someone being there for us as we experience the storms in life. There are six essential family values:

* Belonging:

It is important that each member of the family feel that they are loved, that they belong and that they matter.
* Respect:
The only way to earn and keep someone’s respect is to first show them respect yourself.
* Forgiveness:
It is important to forgive a family member if they have done something to hurt you and always keep in mind that everyone makes mistakes. We all occasionally say things we wish we hadn’t and remember none of us are perfect.
* Communication:

A failure to communicate with someone will likely lead to unhappiness and misunderstanding. When people feel they can talk openly about anything for e.g. hopes, dreams, fears, successes or failures – all without judgment, it’s very encouraging.

* Responsibility:

Responsibility is something that is learned. As a child you may have been shown how to put your toys away after playing or how to tidy your room. Setting out individual responsibilities for family members makes it fair for everyone. * Traditions: Traditions are what make a family unique; they draw people together and create a sense of belonging for everyone.

Family values affect our health, our security, our sense of belonging, our decisions, and the way we manage our family in this ever-changing society. Family values are important because they are a statement of who you are and what you believe in, a person with no values really doesn’t have any respect for themselves or anyone else. Family Values are also important because they help you make important decisions in life. All families have different values but that’s what makes them unique. For e.g. some of my family values are:

* Belonging:
My parents always make sure that I feel accepted that I am included and make sure that I am heard.

* Communication:
Communication is very important in my family as it helps in building and maintaining a strong family which creates a positive and safe environment. Any member is free to communicate their feelings, emotions, thoughts and ideas without fearing lack of respect or being criticized.
