Famous Thinkers Essay Sample

Bill Gates is one of the most famous and popular thinkers in the world, by his creation of Microsoft. Bill gates is also number two richest man in the world, number one in the United States, and number four most powerful man in the world (Forbes, 2013). Bill Gates founded Microsoft in 1975 and by the 1980s he became the leading computer software manufacturer (Oxford, 2012). Microsoft is a software program used by almost every computer in the world. Bill Gates once said when he started Microsoft, he wanted to one day have “a computer on every desk and in every home” (Gates, 2006). Bill Gates has also done more than creating Microsoft, he also is Philanthropist around the world. Not only has he contributed to society by creating Microsoft expanding technology and making it easier for society, but he also donates and aids to find cures.

Thomas Edison is a famous thinker and his inventions in the late 1800s and early 1900s changed the world forever like Bill Gates invention of Microsoft. Thomas Edison was famous for many inventions, but the one that stands out the most is the light bulb. In creating the light bulb the company Edison Illuminating Company was formed, today known as General Electric (Edison, 2013).

Bill Gates was always intellectual scoring a 1590 out of 1600 on SAT (Gates, 2013). Bill Gates always has stayed out of media when it involves politics, he has donated to politics both democrat and republican parties. Bill Gates does not speak much about politics because he once said “I do think this next century, hopefully, will be about a more global view. Where you don’t just think, ‘Yes, my country is doing well,’ but you think about the world at large” (Gates, 2013).

Thomas Edison personal and social environment was helping people have an easier life by his inventions, lighting up several cities throughout the nation. Thomas Edison political environment varied and at times contradicted, he once said “Non-violence leads to the highest ethics, which is the goal of all evolution. Until we stop harming all other living beings, we are still savages” (Edison, n.d.). Edison promoted non-violence but was involved with the U.S. Navy in world war one developing defense communications (Hallowverse, n.d.).

When Bill Gates created Microsoft, like every invention there are problems and issues come with the creation. The biggest issue has been the competitor of Apple Inc., Google, and other software companies. Staying in competition in a world where technology is advancing quickly can be difficult. IBM (International Business Machines) was also an issue causing Bill Gates to look over his shoulder and ensure no competitor came close to his company, as IBM created their own operating system, Bill Gates developed Windows software, refining the operation and intensifying its uses (Gates, 2013). Solutions for one of Bill Gates problems, was to keep expanding and renewing Microsoft making it better for the user and staying ahead of the competition.

Thomas Edison went through problems and issues developing his ideas. The light bulb was argued that it was not invented by Thomas Edison, it was a 50-year-old idea that was not successful by anyone at Thomas Edison improved it and made it successful (Edison, 2013).

Bill gates creative process with Microsoft started with searching for a challenge. At the age of 13 Bill Gates showed interest in computer programing, by age of 15 Bill Gates went into business with his partner Paul Allen. Stage two was created by expressing the invention and obtaining outside sources for helpful ideas in developing Microsoft. Stage three investigating the problem or issue, searching for appropriate material, IBM had denied Bill Gates idea. Stage four Microsoft was created successfully and constantly upgrading changing the world (Gates, 2013).

Thomas Edison creative process for the light bulb started by obtaining a challenge that was not successful. Thomas Edison hired Nikola Tesla as an outside source to implement the idea. Stage three investigating the problem, it was failure for over 50 years and Edison found the problem to the solution. Stage four Thomas Edison changed the world forever by creating the light bulb and the company today known as General Electric (Edison, 2013).

Bill Gates and Thomas Edison both relate on an invention that changed mankind worldwide, making life easier for people. Their inventions took time, but where similar in the creative process and developed throughout the years. Bill Gates idea of Microsoft is difficult to critique and the creating process as well. Bill Gates is a genius and arguing on how his idea could have gone different is difficult to find. Thomas Edison invention of the light bulb is difficult to critique on how the process could have been different. Both inventions were life-changing and led to other inventions out of them.
