Introduction of TOPIC

Florida State University is more than just a world-class academic institution preparing you for a future career. We are a caring community of well-rounded individuals who embrace leadership, learning, service, and global awareness. With this in mind, which of these characteristics appeal most to you and why?

In order to prepare for a future career, I would need a good base of leadership and global awareness. Though learning is an important characteristic, you gain learning from the other features. With leadership comes learning, and with global awareness comes learning too. With that said leadership and global awareness appeal most to me for my future career because when I embrace leadership and become more attentive globally it’s a learning process.

First of all, how can one progress in life without a sense of leadership? The fact that Florida State University is a community that embraces leadership is an imperative attribute, and helps build a strong foundation for a student to progress in life. Leadership can provide a base for ideas and excellence, showing others that anything is possible. Even if it’s just leading fellow peers through a tough situation or leading myself in my own situations, it will have

a huge impact on life. Also, I want to become an attorney and leadership is one characteristic that

I must have in order to be successful. I can’t depend on others to help me when a case, or depend on others to do my case work for me. I have to have leadership and be able to lead myself and others as well. With leadership comes, great ideas, and with great ideas, come a bright future. Thus, leadership will help with anything in my future whether it is a career or any other life choice because in the end it’s what I want to do and not what others want me to do and I would need to lead my own life.

Next, global awareness is one characteristic that sticks out to me the most because if I, or anyone, didn’t know what was going on in the world, then I wouldn’t have a better chance of being successful in the future. For example, what if there is a decrease in careers that are needed, and what if one of those careers were a career that I wanted to pursue? If I wasn’t attentive to global news, I would have a hard time finding a job in that career choice. I can’t just be aware of my own local surroundings, my own city, and my own state. It would be the best interest to be global aware because there may be other options out there globally, or there may be other roadblocks globally that could affect my future. Also, personally I like to be aware of things. I want to know what’s going on in the news and the fact that FSU provides that characteristic to better my future is a plus.

All in all, the reason learning wasn’t one of the characteristics that appealed me the most, and leadership and global awareness did, was that through each of the characteristics you are learning even when you don’t realize so it’s like you’re getting a bonus from FSU when they try to better your future.

David Walker’s ''Appeal''

David Walker’s Appeal is a landmark work of American history which was written by an African American slave during the nineteenth century. David Walker’s Appeal arguably the most radical of all anti- slavery documents, caused a great stir when it was published in September of 1829 calling for slaves to revolt against their masters. The piece of work exposed white racism and gave inspiration to abolitionists in hopes that one day change would come. David Walker’s Appeal which consisted of four articles explored many factors which he believed contributed to the “wretchedness” of the blacks including slavery, religion, ignorance, and the colonizing plan. Throughout David Walker’s piece of work he makes many religious references showing that he is a strong and devout Christian who believes deeply in his faith. Walker emphasizes that the only true master is Lord Jesus Christ. He goes on to explain that we are all created...

Legal Methord Case Note

Beginning students often have difficulty identifying relationships between the parties involved in court cases. The following definitions may help: Plaintiffs sue defendants in civil suits in trial courts. The government (state or federal) prosecutes defendants in criminal cases in trial courts. The losing party in a criminal prosecution or a civil action may ask a higher (appellate) court to review the case on the ground that the trial court judge made a mistake. If the law gives the loser the right to a higher court review, his or her lawyers will appeal. If the loser does not have this right, his or her lawyers may ask the court for a writ of certiorari. Under this procedure, the appellate court is being asked to exercise its lawful discretion in granting the cases a hearing for review. For example, a defendant convicted in a federal district court has the right to appeal...

Jfk Steel Speech Analysis

Throughout his speech in which he condemned companies for raising steel prices, Kennedy repeatedly appeals to a sense of communal sacrifice and collective responsibility in order to rally his everyman audience around this ostensible cause for outrage. From the beginning, Kennedy, a millionaire Harvard graduate, includes himself in the aggrieved camp of everyday Americans by using the first person “we”. The list of sacrifices being made by the “185 million Americans” are thus shared by him as well. He is on their side, united with them. Yet in the very same breath in which he lumps himself in with the rest of the country, he takes another privileged group – the “tiny handful of steel executives” – and sets them apart, separate. Such us-versus-them distinction is a critical justification for the contempt and righteous indignation that Kennedy heaps on the steel companies. But his appeal does not rest solely on...
