Explain what is meant by a balanced and nutritious diet for the growing chid A child should have well balanced diet to prevent infections and diseases. A balanced diet has all the nutrients required by a child in correct proportions for a healthy growth. A balanced diet is needed for the human body to achieve proper growth, development and body function. Some nutrients important to a person’s health are not produced in the body and must be attained from an outside source. Certain nutrients also help an individual battle the risk of some chronic diseases they may be susceptible to later in life ( 13.09.2012) A diet which contains all the nutrients e.g. energy, proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals etc. required by a child for the proper maintenance of health and optimum growth is termed as a ‘balanced A diet is considered “balanced” when all food groups are represented in healthy proportions or percentages. This means following the recommended daily allowances for micronutrients and for macronutrients—fats, carbohydrates, and proteins.

Nutrition and Balanced Diets are often difficult to understand, let alone practice. Yet, they are so important to your success. ( 13.09.2012) Food should also provide the appropriate amount of energy and right amount of water. The diet should not contain items that are harmful. In other words, a balanced diet should be both adequate and wholesome. This definition is easy to give, but it is much more difficult to state precisely what constitutes a balanced diet for any particular individual (: 13.09.2012) Everyone’s plate will look slightly different as we all have different requirements depending on our body’s shape and size, and our levels of activity.( 13.09.2012) Since children use a lot of energy, they require foods which are high in energy.
