Introduction of TOPIC

1. Existing System

The existing system being used is just pen and paper- they use a tally chart and take a whole day to work out the winner of the sports day

2. Problem Statements

The PE department in Ham currently do not run a sports day. The other school in the borough have their own sports day and are more successful at the Borough Athletics. The PE department at Grey Court would like to run a sports day as they feel it would help the school do better when competing with the other schools.

In previous years the PE department have run a sports day and found the following difficult:

* Certificates have to be printed before hand and the names have to be hand written by the staff. This consumes too much time and the teachers are very busy helping with other parts of the sports day

* The winning tutor groups cannot be announced on the day because there is not enough time to calculate the total scores. They would like to find an easy way to quickly find out the winner so that the students don’t become tiresome and bored.

3. Who are the users?

The users will be the teachers, who will be able to quickly and effectively put all the information [add up the scores to see whose winning and how many points that the participants need to get 1st, 2nd, 3rd etc] on.

4. Alternative Solutions

There are a number of ways the school could fix there pro

work out the scores. The only problem is they would need a computer near by with access to the main server.

2. They could hire some extra staff to work out the sums. This would save time for the staff. There are a number of problems with this, you would have to pay them and certificates would still have to be printed.

3. They could carry on with there current system. Nothing would be changed and there current problems would stay.

5. Justification of the Solution

I have decided that 1 is the best solution to use as it would be less costly and could be used in the long run. The software I am going to use is Microsoft Excel(tm) as it is the best and most efficient way, as well as it being ale to keep all of the data in the memory safely, without clutter and mess. Now with

Microsoft Excel(tm) we can generate graphs which will help with organising the groups. It will also quickly and precisely work out total scores, as it can easily to any mathematical sum [uses formulae that are already installed on the programme]. I will also merge the data so that the highest total scores and groups from Microsoft Excel(tm) will appear on the certificate templates that will be on Microsoft Word(tm). We have also decided to use a wireless laptop, as it is portable and light, and its wireless so it can connect to the main server and all the information can be saved and be accessed by the whole school (although only administrators can change results “read-only” to students).

6. User Requirements

1. The teachers complained the certificates had to have the names be handwritten on the day. I will have the certificate templates ready on the computer, and when the winner is revealed, they can have their names been typed on straight away and be printed on a colour printer.

2. They wanted a way to retrieve all the tutor group scores quickly. I have decided that I am going to use tables in Microsoft Excel(tm) which will have the total scores at the bottom. In Microsoft Excel(tm) the total scores will change as points change.

3. The school wants the students to be able to visually see there scores, not to be read out. They can either use a projector with a printed table of the scores, or a smart board, pending on the budget.

Introduction: Describe the business you will be designing the modeling system for and explain what they have asked you to create. Include details about how things are done now. Describe the limitations of the present system. Describe at least two examples "What if" types of question that your spreadsheet model would answer. For this project I am going to be carrying out work for the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) which is the Head of Tennis in the United Kingdom. I have been given the role of organising a tennis tournament for them. The tournament will be held at the Ash-way street garden indoor tennis courts. I have chosen this location because it has the security if it were to rain on the day. I have chosen the date in the summer so the weather is more likely to be better and it is during the main tennis season. Also the...

GCSE Drama: Responding (Sparkleshark)

Sparkleshark is a modern day stage comedy about Jake, a shy 14 year old boy who secretly writes imaginative magical stories from the roof of an inner-city tower block. As the play progresses, more and more characters arrive on the roof before Jake has to think up his best story yet to prevent taking another beating from Russell the 'love-muscle' bully. We have spent a number of lessons in drama working on this play, experimenting with a variety of strategies that would help us gain a greater insight into the different characters and the themes that are explored by writer Philip Ridley. We wanted to get a better understanding of Jake's character in particular and why it is that he spends most of his time at school hiding behind the bins; we decided that Cross-cutting by creating flashbacks to his home and school life before the events of the play...

GCSE Media Studies

Describe and account for the differences between the front pages of two daily national newspapers printed on the same day. The two newspaper front pages that have been chosen are 'The Sun' and 'The Times' from Monday 7th November. We would expect both the newspapers to have the same headlines and main stories, however due to the type of paper the main stories are different. 'The Sun' is a tabloid newspaper which deals with major stories in a less serious way and often the stories have humorous headlines. 'The Sun' also deals with stories from showbiz and celebrities. 'The Times' is a broadsheet newspaper which deals with global stories in a formal and serious way. It is also called a quality paper due to the formality of the writing. Newspapers are written to meet the needs of a target audience, so that there are a variety of different types of...
