Know your Friends Essay Sample

“So Ashley what are you doing tonight” said Benjamin. Ashley glanced round to see who it was. “Oh, hi Benjamin”. He said rather unenthusiastically. “What’s up with you then”. “Nothing” said Ashley. Really he was hoping that it would be Marvin. “Do you want to come round to my house tonight” said Benjamin”. “There’s a programme on exclusive to the discovery channel”. Ashley said “so what is it about then”. Pretending to sound excited even though he wasn’t one bit interested. “It’s about reptiles and amphibians”. Ashley didn’t reply because he was too busy trying to look good in front of Marvin and his crew.

I’m going! ” Said Benjamin in an angry but yet soft tone of voice. “Not that you’re bothered anyway”. Benjamin stormed out of the classroom to leave Ashley on his own. Ashley thought that as soon as Benjamin left the classroom that he would come straight back in. Ashley counted to ten and then quickly stepped outside to try and catch Benjamin up. “Benjamin” Ashley cried. “What do you want he replied”? “I want you to stop acting like a baby and come back right at once” Ashley said trying to catch him up. Benjamin just ignored him and carried on walking. What is your problem” said Ashley as he eventually caught him up.

“What is my problem” said Benjamin as if he was about to go crazy something. “Yes what is your problem! ” Ashley asked said at the top of his voice. Not that his voice is very loud. “Don’t even get me started Mr. to good to listen to his friend’s”. At this point Benjamin was filled with anger as his nose was getting redder and redder. “Is this is what this is all about” Ashley said in a sarcastic yet friendly tone of voice”. “Well yes” he replied. “Oh my God how sad are you” Ashley said.

“I don’t like being ignored”. I was going to say something but you didn’t give me a chance speak” Ashley said back in a sensitive way. Knowing that he wasn’t going to say anything at all. Benjamin felt very embarrassed. “Sorry” said Benjamin. “Oh its alright” Ashley said back. Blatantly knowing that it should have been him to apologise. Although Ashley is Benjamin’s best friend he feels that he has something to prove. Because while everyone is doing so called “cool stuff” him and Benjamin are at home doing homework. This made also made Ashley feel insignificant to Marvin and the rest of the class.

Marvin is a very powerful and popular figure. He is liked by just about everyone. He is well known for his “coolness” and his popularity with the girls. Another thing which makes him cool is his reputation. He has been in so much trouble with the police you couldn’t imagine it. He has been arrested a numerous amount of times for robbery, assault setting fires and he’s even been caught with drugs before. When Benjamin first told me about his past I didn’t believe it. Because Marvin seems a real nice guy and I thought Benjamin was a bit jealous that I think Marvin is cool and he isn’t.

But when I asked him myself he didn’t deny a thing. He just came out with it like it was nothing. But I suppose this is a good thing because it shows that he is not afraid to tell anyone about his negatives in life and that he doesn’t let his past hurt his feelings. He has moved on, started afresh, turned over a new leaf you could say. This is why I want to have him as one of my friends. Not that I don’t like being around Benjamin. It is just that I want to do exciting things, I want have lots of friends, I want to be popular with the ladies and I think its about time I did something about it.

All that night Ashley was thinking of a way that he could get Marvin to show him how to be cool without embarrassing himself. Various thoughts were rushing through his head at this moment in time. He was feeling rather distressed that coolness didn’t come to him naturally. This was starting to annoy him having to go up to the coolest guy in the year and asking for. But at the end of the day he knew that it was himself who was going to benefit, so he said to his self “lets go for it”. It was the next day.

It was a very nice day because the birds were singing, the sun was shining, the air was fresh and I knew I was ready. I knew I was ready to do what I had to do. That morning I had nothing for breakfast which was very different because normally when I wake up my mum usually asks me what I want to eat. But that day I want to be a man you could say. I mean I didn’t want to depend on my mum or even my dad. This was a real big step for me because most of the time you can count on me to be the one who has his bed made in the morning, his breakfast made in in the morning, my schoolbag ready in the morning.

But today was my independence day. As I was walking to school I was observing the surrounding so I could remember this day in full detail. In my head I had a good feeling that Marvin was going to accept me and let me be one of his friends. As I got to the school I had just remembered one thing, that I hadn’t told Benjamin. I stopped and started to panic about how he would take it and if he feels that I am sort of rejecting him. As I got closer to the my form room and I started to get more nervous it seemed like everyone was staring at saying things about.

I was trying to calm myself down because I knew it wasn’t really happening, but it was because my nerves were starting to get to me. I was trying to keep myself in a positive state but I just couldn’t handle it. I made my way towards the toilets at this time because I was feeling a bit queasy. And before I got to a free toilet in time I had vomited all over my new jeans. At first I wasn’t really bothered until I saw Marvin. The only thing that came into my mind was shame . “I thought this was going good day” he said to himself. “But now look what has just gone and happened”. “Shit” Ashley said under his breath.
