The Legend Of Hell House Essay Sample

Chapter 1: The initiation

No-one knew, when these events occurred, that it was the start of a dark and terrifying tale…….

Two headlights were being seen in the distant fog up-ahead, the engine of a sports car was being heard roaring along a winding road. A gang of 13 teenagers heard the sound as they stood at the rusty gates which was the sinister bulk of a derelict-looking mansion. The car doors opened to the sound of music bellowing around the area, three teenagers stepped out of the car, they looked around but all they could see was fog and distant voices calling there names. “Where are we?” Uttered Steve, “This is where we were called to meet the other members of the group,” whispered Mark.

A bright flame was being seen up-ahead, “welcome to the party” Shouted one of the gang members. “I heard that you wanted to join our cult”

“Well, we do but if it is too much trouble we will just leave you in peace” said Steve in a terrified voice. “Wait a second, you can’t leave…..The initiation begins as you three, our newest members are going to practise our initiation rights right here in this mansion, all you have to do is spend one night in that house, there is no electricity, no running water and no food either, there is no way of escaping this mansion, those gates are 15 feet tall and very, very sharp, Oh! Before I go, there is a maze behind the house, I advise you not to go in there because all who have ventured inside there have perished, we will now leave you in peace, also you may look around if you so desire. The gang walk away into the fog

Chapter 2: The House

“what do we do now,” said Steven. “Lets look around this house for some candles so the three opened the huge rusty, metal doors and a blanket of dust covered them from head to toe. Mark, Steve and Steven split up and left in different directions. Mark decided that he would look into the kitchen in hope to find some food, not listening to what the gang member said. Marks feet creaked along the kitchen floor, he looked firstly in the fridge, although he could not find some food he decided to look inside the cupboards but all he could find was some stale, very disgusting looking bread. mark ventured out of the room and decided to look in the room opposite him, there was a sudden chill in the air, it felt like someone had stabbed him in the back.

The temperature then began to go normal There was a sudden frightening look in his eyes, almost as if someone was watching him. He entered the room with disbelief in the hope of finding some candles, although he did not find the candles, He did however find some matches, The room was very large and three very sturdy looking oak Book-Shelves filled with horror novels all from around the world was standing in the far end of the room, there was a courtyard leading to another end of the house, the courtyard looked very dark and mysterious in Marks eyes, although he felt a sense of relief when he found the courtyard, a very happy look was coming over Marks face but he knew he had to look for those candles.

There was a desk in the middle of the room with three identical looking books in the centre of it, “What are these for” Thought Mark to himself, he opened the first book and looked at the first page, It read ( He who enter here shall perish, before the eyes of the beholder. ) Mark turned the page and found a rusty key, blank, it was like the key had a mind and the mind had no past, no future, this key was put here to stay for all eternity until someone picked it up and used it. Mark obtained the key and put it in his pocket, Mark opened the second book and found not writing, but a box, a thin box that seemed very old, there was a key hole at the centre of the box, Mark used the key in the hope that it would turn and, sure enough, it did.

He opened the box and he could feel the same chill he had felt before, only this time it seemed to be portraying a figure of a man, sitting down, carving every inch of the box, it looked so real to his eyes, remembering the message he had read in the book. He looked around feeling nothing, he closed his eyes and tears started to fall delicately, down his cheek, landing on the hard floor beneath his feet. He opened his eyes and nothing but a picture on the wall behind him, the picture was of a man, with his wife and two children, a boy, looking handsome with a suit on, looking about 8, a girl stood next to him, looking frightened and worried, the mother clenching his husbands hands if she too was worried.

In the background was the very room in which Mark was standing, mark went over to the picture, looking at it, feeling the paints every brush line and felt a hole inside of the fathers eye, Mark turned to the box, looking down at was inside, it was another key, this one looked strange, he picked it up and turned round to look at the painting. The fathers eyes had a strange dark, evil glow towards them, he walked over to them, pushed the key into the hole and turned the lock, A rumbling sound occurred within the walls and the large painting started to move and the painting appeared to be opening from the centre.

Mark looked down at the hole and there appeared to be stairs. Mark did not want to go down there until he had found some candles so mark turned around and realised that there was still another book to be opened so he sat down reached over to grab the book, Mark then proceeded to open the book and he started to read it, the handwriting seemed to be that of a young teenage girl, maybe thirteen, fourteen.

Mark continued to read the book, it appeared to be a Diary of the little girl in the painting but much, much older, as mark read through the diary he found out that the father he had seen in the painting was the builder of this house, the house was meant to be inhabited by Queen Victoria herself, although the house was not finished the family stayed there until it was finished, nearing completion the builder grew more and more confined to his room, never coming out for food or anything to do with his family, one day the girl came home from school the father had killed her family………..That was her last entry, Mark thought that she must still be hiding within this house so mark closed the book and he used his lighter that he had in his pocket and went into the painting.

Chapter 3: The underground

As Mark ventured into the painting he heard the faint sound of footsteps growing ever so stronger as he went down the stairs and as he was walking a few paintings attached to the wall caught his attention, the first was of a baby girl in a rocking chair with a very young boy holding her hand, mark ventured even further down winding stairs and a second painting caught his eyes, this one was of a toddler playing with her older brother in the courtyard of this very house.

As he walked down the stairs the footsteps were growing very loud, as he went down the next flight of stairs there was another painting of a teenage girl with her adult brother, the next painting was of an adult girl at a funeral, Mark looked closer at the painting and saw something glistening inside the painting, around the woman’s neck was a green locket, inside there was a switch, he pushed it and the walls started to rumble and the painting fell to the floor revealing a key stuck to the back of it so mark picked it up and the wall came crashing down revealing a secret room. Mark felt cold, clammy hands on his shoulder, mark slowly turned around and it was Steve and Steven looking at him. ” what are you doing down here all alone, ” asked Steve, Mark told Them both what had happened and what he had saw ” so I flicked the switch and grabbed the key from behind the painting and I also found out a dark and terrifying story about this house.

12 years ago a man named Hugh Crain had a dream, a dream which portrayed this house, Hugh Had a wife named Carolin, a son named Joshua and A daughter Named Trish, He built this house for them, he, and his employees from his textile mills built every inch of this house, room by room, wall by wall, he kept on building for ten years until one evening he called his whole family into the library, got his wife Carolin and slit her throat with a butchers knife, then he took poor innocent trish and broke her neck with one quick twist of his hands, he then went on to say to Joshua, the house belongs to you now, its your faylt that they died, and held his hand with his blood soaked hands and then proceeded to blow his brains out with a shotgun, it is still rumoured that Joshua took his whole family and buried them in the basement of this very house, and that he still lives hear today and-” there was a sudden gush of freezing wind that flew past them and pierced them right to the core, the wind died down and the three wandered into the secret room and found a huge painting in the middle of it.

The painting was of an old woman crying, there was a door in the background and there was a tiny hole in the door, Mark inserted the key into the door and turned the tiny handle and opened it. Inside was the most disgusting looking freak of nature you have ever seen, it had a big claw for a hand and an eye bulging out of his shoulder and a human head moulding in with a dog-like head clanging next to it.

There was a rolled up newspaper clipping being clutched within his hands and a rusty sword being pierced into his chest, mark examined the sword and it had the family crest engraved into it and the marking T0-78 also engraved into it, he pulled out the sword with quite difficulty, the sword was squelching through the decaying flesh and as he pulled out the sword hundreds of thousands of maggots and other insects were gushing out of it’s body the sword was crawling with maggots and suddenly the room started to shake and the claw on the monsters hand started to ever, so slowly twitch and move, Mark and the other two ran out of the room and up the winding stairs to safety and just as they reached the top the monsters claw grabbed steve’s whole body and with one quick tug it was brought back down, suddenly Steve’s head flew and bounced off one of the paintings, They turned around and saw two glowing red eyes and heard the most devilish growl, they walked back and the creature lunged forward and……..

Chapter 4: The heart of Hell House:

The monster, as it lunged forward, it let out the most horrific scream ever known, as the two ran for the door the monster slashed Stevens chest and stomach, tearing and ripping at his flesh from his arm. Tears were now running down his cheek, the monster looked at them both with blood dripping from his mouth, Steven slumped into a heap on the floor, the monster lunged for Mark but mark fought off the monster with the sword and slit its throat. The monster screamed as blood gushed from his neck and fell down the spiral staircase ” that was Joshua, bellowed Steven, he wants revenge for the cruel acts set upon him,” blood slid down his face and mouth.

Mark cried and went out of the house and towards the gate, he used the sword to open the gates and walked into the fog, a devilish laugh could be heard from hell house, a black shadow was seen on the front door with a head grasped in its arm, people say that they can still hear cries coming from the basement, the heart of hell house, residents say that hell house was born bad, that it has always stood for 90 years and maybe even 90 more and that everyone who walks among the floors of hell house, walk alone.
