Introduction of TOPIC

I did not come from a household in which reading and writing was promoted, although both my parents were literate. My motivation to start a new family legacy comes from looking at how my literacy skills were formed.

Growing up I cannot remember when I began to write. I do remember my fourth grade teacher “Ms. Pickering. I did my school work, because I had to. I do not remember a pivotal moment about writing. My parents mind set was it’s the schools job to teach you how to read and write. In hind sight I should have initiated more reading on my own, or been more interested, but I wasn’t, I was worried about baseball, soccer and then football. As I grew, my attitude towards writing did, I was not good at it so I was insecure when I had to write. I thought it was a waste of time. I am not an English professor (obviously) but my writing began to improve when I was taught how to make documents at work- schedules, order lists, inventory sheets. Then when emails became a bigger part of communication I would look at how my boss would format their writings and how the big bosses would write their letters… Did I learn proper writing, probably not, but it was better than what I was doing before. Looking back I guess it is corporate/email writing etiquette.

I am a slow reader, but I tell people I like to savor books! I never learned how to read fast, I envy people who can read a paragraph or page once, sometimes I will need to read a two sentence or paragraph two to three times to really understand it. Reading has always been a chore to me. As I have gotten older I have started to actually enjoy reading more. I will read news on the internet. I guess I never had that fairytale teacher or parent that lit the reading fire.

Reading and writing is definitely not the constant in my life, it does not fill my soul, I really wish I could say the opposite.

Todays’ vampire most likely is characterized as a creature who struggles with its life and tries desperately to be human. For example, look at the character Edward in the “Twilight” books or the Salvatore brothers in “The Vampire Diaries.” The vampire in John Polidori’s, “Vampyre,” is a creature that is cunning and feeds on members of society who are less fortunate and those who are weak in some manner. He is evil, and strikes fear among the people who have heard the stories about him. Polidori wrote the “Vampyre” while traveling with Byron. The two parted ways, on bad terms. Little did Polodori know when he wrote the “Vampyre,” Lord Byron would haunt him until his death, like the character Lord Ruthven did to Aubrey in the story. Upon further investigation of the story behind the story of the “Vampyre,” one could determine that life imitated art, according to the...

The history of one successful tennis player

Roger Federer, a Swiss professional tennis player and victor of 18 Grand Slam singles titles, which is the name for the largest tournaments in tennis, is an inspiration for many players throughout the world including myself because of his journey to become the world No.1 and his ability to overcome obstacles during this journey (Biography.com Editors). Because of his skill, charisma, and success, Federer’s legacy will remain influential to the future of tennis and its players forever (Koeppel). Though, Federer’s accomplishments were not achieved easily, for throughout his life he would experience a series of hardships that would act as obstacles to his goal of becoming the world No.1 (Koeppel). Not only does Federer inspire players throughout the world, but he also inspires me to become a better tennis player because even though he was confronted with multiple obstacles that tried to prevent him from becoming a better player, he...
