Live Concert Essay Sample
The performance in a live concert entails a very demanding scope of preparation. Because of the significant high expectation of the audiences, concert performers, together with the whole crew of the production, need to input their very best attitude since no second takes will be allowed. Every single move and detail will always correspond to the overall success of the show.
The live concert specifically selected for this article is the one performed by Jennifer Lopez. Although she is the main artist for the program, additional performer who happens to be his fiancée was invited in the person of Marc Anthony. The performance was held last October 14 2007 at the United Center in Chicago. The main performers in the concert were Jennifer herself and Marc Anthony with some backup singers. It was dubbed The En Concierto Tour.
As what should be expected in the said concert, the main theme of the musical scores reflects that of a jazzy type salsa. Because of the nature of Jennifer’s origin which is Hispanic, the Latin American tune can be overwhelmingly identified in the whole of music selections. Add to that the fact that Marc Anthony also has a Hispanic lineage which provided a very good complement to Lopez’s mode of music. The tune and the beats of the music were very based on Latin American platform.
In terms of the technical setting where the concert was performed, one can easily consider it as a type of classy and sophisticated background. The space is wide enough to accommodate all the instrumental equipment for music. The two artists also had a very spacious stage for the overall performance. A mini platform was also used with an improvised stair as production props. There was also a wide screen behind the stage to let the audiences view the actual performance even from a far distance in the theatre. The lights colored in hues of purple and orange also provided a very relaxing and formal atmosphere for the whole concert show.
The concert was a series of tours in different cities across the United States. It was not televised by local free stations but may have been broadcasted with rights by cable companies. Moreover, the concert is available for viewing on the internet through some media partners and free broadcast websites.
There were different types of musical instruments played in the concert. Most of the time, those instruments which are common to Latin American songs were used. Among them are guitars, low tone drums, saxophones, maracas, trumpets and others which give low sounding beats.
Most of the songs performed were very emotional in nature especially targeting the feelings of love. At the very least, songs were of sad tones. Although there was a complete mixture of Latin and English songs, most of them reflect what Jennifer Lopez’s talent is all about in terms musicality. She sung one of her popular classic pop songs like Waiting for Tonight by Maria Christensen. On the other hand Latin songs such as No Me Ames composed by Giancarlo Bigazzi and Por Arriesgarnos by Julio Reyes and Marc Anthony were also performed by Jennifer. The style of these mixtures of selections provided greater audience scopes. Latin or Spanish songs are more catered to individuals who were a bit sentimental while the English counterparts are more of a pop and active type.
Maria Christensen is a song writer who has a passion for singing and composing at the age of 10. She was a part of a three-person dance group back in 1997 which popularized the hit Waiting for Tonight. During the mid 90’s era of dance song popularity, the group released an album titled Alive.
Giancarlo Bigazzi was a composer born in the 1940’s in Firenze, Italy. He was a member of the group Squallor which popularized love songs in Latin tunes. Due to the nature of Giancarlo’s background, it is quite difficult to obtain some more details about his other works and profile as records about him were based in Italy.
On the other hand, Julio Reyes was born in 1969 and was originally a pianist. He was a student in Javeriana University in Colombia. He teamed up with Marc Anthony who is also a budding composer. Reyes joined the Estefano Production which is administered by Estefano, a famous Columbian composer. In 1997, Julio transferred to the United States where he became a scholar at the University of Miami. He also became an assistant in the department of pop music composition. Julio received numerous awards in the music industry. His latest projects were done with collaboration with Marc Anthony. Because of his talents, he was hired to collaborate with other musicians who provided the soundtracks for movies such as Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
Marc Anthony was born in New York in 1968. His name was patterned from a Mexican musician by the name of Marco Antonio Muniz who was very popular in Puerto Rico at that time (Wikipedia, 2007). His basic occupation is singing and acting. He also has a daughter from his previous relationship with Beauty Queen Dayanara Torres. After an unexpected break up, he was then seen coming along with Jennifer Lopez which ended in a full blown relationship.
