As I think back to the beginning of my Critical Thinking course I did not think it would be so hard and critical, but was I so wrong. What I have learned in this class is that I am not the advanced thinker that I thought I was. I did not know all of the issues that came along with actually knowing how to think critically or what you had to consider when solving problems and issues and how different two were. Critical thinking is the ability to think clearly and rationally. It includes the ability to engage in reflective and independent thinking. Critical thinking is the ability to understand logical connections between ideas, identify, construct and evaluate arguments, detect inconsistencies and common mistakes in reasoning, solving problems systematically and identify the relevance and importance of ideas. The three most significant things that I have learned about critical thinking during this course is identifying different types of errors in reasoning, identifying the different fallacies and also the different things about critical thinking that makes me comfortable and uncomfortable that I deal with in my everyday life.
Critical thinking has changed for because I did not understand or even know the basic things that applied to critical thinking, when you are forced to think critically you must think actively. I have never been much of an active thinker in my everyday life or so I thought but in actuality we do this all the time but not really being aware of it. When rating myself before on what kind of thinker I thought I was I said I was an advanced thinker because I felt in my everyday life I can solve my problems without making them issues or vice versa I sometimes over thought things or thought too much into something which would make it more critical then it needed to be..
Now when I look back on what I have learned in this course I am pretty sure that I am not an advance thinker, I now would rate myself as a either a challenged thinker or beginning thinker the reason for the different rating is because now that I know how to identify the stages in critical thinking and apply them and I was a poor thinker. I understand the importance of being a good thinker and thinking independently but I did not the problems that are inherent in thinking. After this course I plan to advance in my thinking by developing new fundamental habits of thoughts based on deep values to which I have committed myself to. I also will begin to make the highest levels of critical thinking intuitive in every domain of my life.
