Currently plagiarism has become a threat to authors and academic researchers in the spheres of journalism, businesses, and academic institutions. Plagiarism is defined as using other peoples’ ideas without acknowledging. Effects of plagiarism include depriving owners of ideas of financial gains, lowering credibility of institutions as well as dwarfing generation of new knowledge.

Preventive measures aimed at curbing plagiarism include, increased efforts from governments and private sector to stamp out the vice, adoption of anti-plagiarism software by institutions as well as instilling tough disciplinary measures to victims Mallon, T (1989).
Plagiarism is the single most threat to the thriving of creativity and originality in the field of writing. It not only suffocates knowledge but also dwarfs writing as a profession. Others include, turn it in which detects plagiarism by subjecting a paper to websites and databases which contains e-books and a pool of essays of similar nature. There is a need for all stakeholders to team up and join efforts in curbing the problem of plagiarism, Universities and colleges are better off if they share intelligence on plagiriasm.
Governments should fund public institutions to establish programmes aimed at controlling plagiriasm. Plagiarism has been enhanced by technology and it is the same technology which can solve the problem since the problem. Every academic institution should develop a policy on plagiarism as well as sharing information and expertise in fighting plagiarism. Finally there a need to increase the awareness levels of plagiarism especially in the developing countries where plagiarism is not treated as seriously as it should.
