Introduction of TOPIC
Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare in London from 1594 to 1596. It was first published in an unauthorized quarto in 1597 and authorized quarto appeared in 1599. The play begins with a large fight between the Montagues and the Capulets, two prestigious families in Verona, Italy. Romeo is a Montague and Juliet is a Capulet. They fall in love at a dance and agree to get married secretly the next day. But after the marriage, Romeo gets in a fight and kills Juliet’s cousin. He will be banished from the city. Friar suggests Romeo spend the night with Juliet, and then leave for Mantua in the morning. Romeo takes Friar’s advice. Juliet’s family is not aware of Juliet’s marriage and wants her to marry Paris, a wealthy nobleman. Juliet goes to Friar who gives her a potion that will make her seem dead for three days. Friar promises to send Romeo a letter. Juliet drinks the potion and everyone assumes that she is dead. But The Friar’s letter never reaches to Romeo. After Romeo hears Juliet’s death, he rushes to Juliet’s tomb and kills himself in front of her.
When Juliet wakes up and sees Romeo is dead, she stabs herself just as the two families arrive together. The two families see that their beloved children are both dead because of their foolish fight, so
they declare a truce. Shakespeare is often considered one of the world’s greatest playwrights, and
It also deals with the idea of fate like many of Shakespeare’s other plays. The fate caused by the circumstances of the feuding families predicted that these two would not be able to live together with the complete happiness of their families. Plots are events that form the entire play. In Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare portrayed two teenagers fall deeply in love, but with family feuds, complications are brought throughout the story, and end up with death. In this play, main characters are Romeo and Juliet. Secondary characters are Friar Lawrence, Balthasar, and Paris. In Shakespeare’s day, poetry was the language of love.
When Romeo and Juliet first meet, the language is poetic and full of depth. This reinforces the idea that the lovers are star-crossed and meant to fall in love. Romeo and Juliet is written in the form of a play, making it harder to read than romance novels. The organization and the writing style make the book readable, but the language is difficult. So, I would not pick it up as an entertaining book before I go to sleep. But I still recommend it to my friends who have not read it yet because the story is beautiful although it is a tragedy and the powerful love expressed in the play.
