1. Intro: (210)
This paper will begin by defining the concept of the self in the social world. It will go into a detailed explanation of what parts are included and how each part is influenced. From there this paper will discuss self-concept, self-esteem and self-efficacy in application to my everyday life. Finally two social experiences that affected my personal devilment; followed by a detailed conclusion.

2. Define the concept of the self in the social world. What does this mean? What are the parts of self that are included? How are they influenced? The concept of the self is a very imperative word in the social world. The self-concept is how we as individuals think of ourselves. As defined by, (OUR TEXT.) Self Concept can be defined as, “The individual’s belief about himself or herself, including the person’s attributes and who and what the self is”. Each individual has a unique and very different understanding of one’s self. The self is a assortment of carious ideas, including self-esteem, social self, self-knowledge and self-concept.

In order for one to become in touch with themselves they must first have the ability to acknowledge their feeling, parts of the body, as well as others. This process is called Self-Schemas, which refers to the beliefs and ideas people have about themselves. These beliefs are used to guide and organize information processing, especially when the information is significant to the self. Self-schemas are important to a person’s overall self-concept. Basically how we see ourselves in the different roles we play the other important aspect to understanding how the self in influenced is the concept of self-reference. The concept of self-reference gives an individual the ability to recall information, which is considered worthy of one’s self. (OUR TEXT)

3. Apply the self to your life, including self-concept, self-esteem, and self-efficacy. Define these concepts, describe them and apply them to your life.

The definition of Self-Concept- is the mental and conceptual awareness and persistent regard that sentient beings hold with regard their own being.(CITE!!!) This is the concept of how someone perceives himself or herself. Applying Self-Concept to me individually, I feel as if I have a pretty grounded understanding of my self-concept. I am a perfectionist, struggle with time management and like to be in charge, or often referred to as a leader. With that said I feel as if I have a good understanding of my weakness and have the ability to hand control over to others who may handle specific situations better than myself. I personally believe from what we’ve read in the text is that someone’s self-concept is something that the individuals needs to often revisit as it is constantly evolving.

Moving onto, Self-esteem- refers to the extent to which we like accept or approve of ourselves or how much we value ourselves. Self-esteem always involves a degree of evaluation and we may have either a positive or a negative view of ourselves. When applying the concept of self-esteem to myself I feel like it depends on the specific concept. Professionally, my self-esteem is very high I feel as if I am knowledgeable about the field I work in and feel I am often well spoken. How did this come about? By supervisors guiding me over the years while building up my self-esteem so I come across confident when speaking to clients and their parents. On the other hand if one were to analyze my Self-esteem in a social setting it may be different. I feel like I am a little more withdrawn in a social environment because I am typically in groups of individuals much older than myself and my self-esteem is much lower.

Self-efficacy which is defined as people’s beliefs about their capabilities to produce designated levels of performance that exercise influence over events that affect their lives. Self-efficacy beliefs determine how people feel, think, motivate themselves and behave. Such beliefs produce these diverse effects through four major processes. They include cognitive, motivational, affective and selection processes.(CITE!!!!) Now to apply Self-efficacy to my life I feel as if this also depends on the circumstance. Like most I have my strengths and my weaknesses and over time I have became aware of those. I know I personally do well under pressure and often produce my best work while crunched for time so in that aspect my self=efficacy is high. I feel like I have a good sense of control over things in my current environment, yes they are crazy and I am a little overwhelmed at times; but all in all I feel ads if I have the ability and motivation to accomplish all of the things on my plate currently.

4. Describe at least two social experiences that affected your personal development. What were the experiences and how did they influence your personal, social development?

The first social experience that affects my personal development that I am going to discuss is the process of changing from a woman to a mother. It is an experience that is so life changing its almost challenging to put into words. When one becomes a mother they realize they are not longer the same “self.” Becoming a mother changed my perspective in every aspect of my life. When I was expecting my daughter I had a strong desire to make peace with those I had issues with from the past, I sent out apology emails which may seem a little extreme but it was a peace I needed to feel before bringing a new life into this world. During this amazing transformation I became more forward thinking which as an end result changed my social surroundings.

Almost Unconsciously I went from having social exchanges with younger individuals to individuals that were in the same life stages as me, I as well as my husband became forward thinkers. Becoming a parent also changed my personality in numerous ways, I became more outgoing in silly vs the reserved me before children I would make silly faces to see my infant smile. With that came a more compassionate heart, and a more forgiving individual.

The second social experience I believe affected my personal development was beginning college. Looking back I remember when reality hit, standing in line in the college book store to pay hundreds of dollars for books, I realized this is it! I’m on my own. Like many college was the beginning of a long road to independence. In college the guidance I had become depended on in my youth was no longer there. If I need assistance is was my responsibility to ask for it, no one was there to ask what I needed. The beginning of my college experience was monumental filled with many firsts, new friends and a new environment since I had moved hours away from home. I believe all of these social experiences brought me to the independent and responsible adult I am today.

5. Conclusion:
In conclusion, this paper began by giving a detailed explanation of the self in the social world. This paper than discussed self-concept, self-esteem and self-efficacy in application to my everyday life.
