Crime is one social issue that has caught everyone’s eye. Crime has various branches; there are lots of different types of crime.

Major crimes that are the main cause of concern include Kidnapping, Theft/Robbery, Murder, Rape, ChildAbuse (Verbal and physical), Terrorism (Bombings etc), and identity fraud so on and so forth.

One of the main social agenda’s of our age is to find a way to prevent these crimes.

There are different ways, theories and ideas as how to stop all of these crimes.

Murder and its prevention:When a person is killed by another against his or her will, it is labeled murder.

Firstly people need to be aware of its consequences, in terms of religion and law.

Once people are more aware of its consequences, there is likely to be a reduction. As the some people commit this crime without realizing its consequences and what a horrible thing it is to do.

If people are made aware of murderers, what they may look like, the timings that they strike and the victims that they go for. It could seriously prevent a lot of murders, as if people are more aware and cautious their chances of not being at risk and escaping are a lot larger.

If the use of arms and other dangerous items such as knives etc are banned in public this too can help prevent murder. As without the aid of such items murdering a person becomes more difficult.

Also some murders take place over petty matters, by young adults who may become involved in violence and gangs at a very young age. The government should target these groups and help counsel them and offer them a way out of these ideas and surroundings and offer them a way out of the violence and wrong they might be indulging in.

Kidnapping and its prevention:In order to prevent the psychological and physical effects of kidnapping, and kidnapping in general, certain safety measures must be taken. In general, parents should never leave their children unattended, however brief they mean to be and should familiarize themselves with their child’s friends (and their families), as well as their daily activities.

They should insist that their children return home at a certain time (curfew), and be alert to any person older than the child that is paying an unusual amount of attention, or offers exuberant gifts to, the child.

Also they should teach their children to say “no” when they feel someone is wrong or making them feel uncomfortable and encourage that their children should report any approaches of anyone who made them feel uncomfortable. If parents have a need to hire a babysitter, certain precautions must also be taken:For example they must obtain and thoroughly check references if they are not familiar with the sitter and make nonchalantly make unexpected visits.

Babysitters should always make sure that all the doors are locked, that strangers should not enter the home, that information should not be volunteered over the phone, and that the child is carefully monitored (when awake as well as asleep). Parents should never place their children’s names in visible places, such as on clothing, in lunchboxes, etc. They should never permit their children to sell material door-to-door, even for fundraisers.

Theft/Robbery and its prevention:Of the crimes that the societies face, robbery involves the least loss of money or other assets. Unlike other crimes, however; robbery puts the victim in physical danger. An individual can take some simple preventative measures to reduce their risk of being a robbery victim.

Simple steps can prevent robberies and thefts form happening. People should be more careful with their belongings, ensuring their safety and keeping them in sight and not flashing them around.

adults should ensure that their houses are secure thus any robbers that may enter will have to face resistance and thus a chance to call the police and stop the robbery from happening. General precautions should be taken, people should not roam the streets at night and avoid dangerous place and being alone.

People should also try to carry no load and not carry valuable items around, and also keep a low profile and not make it obvious if any valuables are being carried or are worn.

Rape and its prevention:Some teens don’t believe they can actually be a victim of a rape. Anyone can be a victim, so people need to be aware of what is going on around them. One of the risk factors for rape is not communicating views on sex. Since most rapes are committed by an acquaintance or boyfriend, it is in everyone’s best interest for those they know to understand their views on premarital sex. Then they need to set clear boundaries about what they will and will not do and where they will and will not go.

There is also a lowered risk of rape when people follow the advice of dating or hanging out n groups. Also one should avoid being led into places where they are alone or isolated. Staying with the group means staying safe. Date rape drugs are becoming more rampant. While one can control if they drink alcohol or use drugs, one cannot always control what others put in their drink. To prevent someone from slipping a date rape drug in a drink one should not accept drinks that are brought by others. Women who are in particular major targets, should learn self defense as it can help them escape attempted rape.

Child Abuse (Verbal and physical) and its prevention:Verbal and physical abuse are very common crimes. Unfortunately victims to this crime can be as young as four. Especially in terms of physical abuse.

This crime can be prevented. Parents need to understand how important it is to be loving and nurturing parents and how important their love and care is for their children. Often parents (single parents usually) have trouble being parents, juggling responsibilities etc. If help could be offered to struggling parents, it would reduce their chances of being angry and thus reduce the possibility of taking it out on their partners or children.

When adults are angry and stressed, they should deal with it quickly to avoid any kind of stress related actions that may be dangerous. E.g.: Taking their frustration out on their children (by hitting them etc).

People should report any suspected abuse immediately, after it is said better safe than sorry.

Terrorism and it’s prevention:Terrorism exists in many forms. It includes bomb blasts, killings and generally different strategies of taking away human life and creating panic and chaos.

Terrorism can be stopped in many ways. First of all people need to be aware of the people behind these acts and how to recognize them and of how to avoid such people.

Also many people involved in terrorist activities are uneducated, if more people are educated and made aware of it’s consequences and how bad this act really is those who are doing it unaware of it’s consequences are likely to stop.

Dangerous items should be banned for use by individuals unless absolutely necessary. For example items such as guns, bombs, knives etc.

Identity fraud and its prevention:The number of identity fraud cases has more than doubled from 22,520 in 2000 to 56,200 in 2005. And in the first three quarters of 2006, around 51,000 people have already fallen victim to the crime, according to fraud prevention service Cifas. “Bin raiding,” where
fraudsters rifle through rubbish to steal documents, is only used in about 7% of identity fraud cases. It is worth protecting yourself, however, and is simple to do. Don’t simply throw out old post – tear it up into small pieces, burn it or buy a shredder. Watch out in particular for pre-approved credit applications. It is tempting to throw them straight in the bin, but they have all sorts of information that would be handy for a criminal.

Make sure your passport, driving licence, birth and marriage certificate are kept somewhere safe, preferably locked away and separate. They are very valuable to a burglar. Use passwords that are difficult to guess. Your partner or children’s names are not a good idea, for example, and you should have a different password for each of your accounts. Do not change your security details in a public place, and never write them down. Check that a website is secure before you enter your credit or debit card details. Look for the security icon, a locked padlock at the bottom of the browser window. The start of the website address should also change from http to https. Don’t just file bank statements away to read another day. Check them when they arrive. If there are any transactions you don’t recognise, however small, contact your bank.
