The law

The Data protection Act requires all organizations which handle personal information to comply with a number of important principles regarding privacy and disclosure. The Act states that anyone who processes personal information must comply with eight principles. The Act also allows people to find out what personal information is held about them by making a subject access request. This covers information held electronically and in some paper records, and includes credit reference details.

The data protection helps the agency by protecting there customers information or any viruses get to the computer.

The Computer Misuse became law in August 1990. Under the Act hacking and the introduction of viruses are criminal offences. Universities and colleges need to co-operate to take action under the Act as the offences are likely to be committed by members of universities and colleges, students in particular, and are often perpetrated on machines or networks within the sector.

What it is

What problems do /can they cause

Ways of prevention

It is a virus copies information form a computer and sends it to a different computer.

The problems that it can cause is threats (malware) that appears to perform a desirable function but in fact performs undisclosed malicious functions that allow unauthorized access to the host machine, giving them the ability to save their files on the user’s computer or even watch the user’s screen and control the computer

Another source of viruses is that of downloaded programmes that promise to entertain or be useful. Always be wary of what software you install, and check the company’s credentials. Downloaded ‘Warez’ (illegal pirated software) is another source, so be very careful of this.

A virus that neutralises but multiplies

A Worm may arrive in an unsolicited e-mail in an attachment that tempts you to open it; once you do the worm spreads to your computer. E-mail Worms that have the ability to replicate and e-mail themselves too many people simultaneously have resulted in the crashing of e-mail servers in the past due to the excessive strain of all the traffic!

Backup all important data and applications onto floppies, zip disks or CD ROMs. If the worst does happen, at least all of your hard work will not be lost with the deletion of your hard drive.

Devnull is the name of a computer worm for the Linux operating system which has been named after /dev/null, Unix’s null device. This worm was found on 30 September 2002.

This worm, once the host has been compromised, downloads and executes a shell script from a web server. This script downloads a gzipped executable file named k.gz from the same address, and then decompresses and runs the file.

The way of preventing this is to always have an antivirus software on your computer. If you don’t have an antivirus on your computer then this virus is a very bad and effective one so you will have to reboot your whole computer quickly so that it doesn’t spread and affect the whole computer.

The security measures that should be used are passwords and AVG.

The effect it will have is that the work will go forever and the way to prevent it is to make sure that your data has a backup, a password and kept safely.

Disadvantages of the Internet

Advantages of the internet

You could get viruses if you go on the wrong websites.

You can do research on it.

Sometimes bad pop ups come up.

You can advertise your company on it.

If you have too much history then the internet gets slow.

You can search for what you’re looking for.

Difference between my system and a commercial system

The system that real organisations would use is either they would go to an ICT company that is professional at the job and give them the detail on how they would want the company’s website to be like or they will get a different software other than Microsoft publisher from any computer shop such as pc world and do it from that software.

The system I used and the system that real companies use has a lot of differences between them such as their product that comes out is more professional than my and they will have much better effects on their system. Also they will have better facilities than mine to make their product and that’s why their product becomes more popular.

Understanding social, Economic, legal and moral effects of ICT = 1

Explain difference between the system and a commercial one = 2

Compare and contrast wider working practices = 2
