Our project titled “SUPER GREENHOUSE GAS” aims to mitigate the effects of various greenhouse gases in our environment. Many inventions and methods have been developed to reduce the harmful effects of the common greenhouse gases such as CO, CO2 , SO2, N2O and hydrocarbons etc,.
Many people think that CO, CO2, SO2, N2O and hydrocarbons etc, are the only greenhouse gases but there are several other greenhouse gases which is unknown to many people. One of such gas is Trifluoro Methyl Sulphur Pentafluoride. This gas is considered to be one of the potent greenhouse gases.
That’s why our project aims to create a huge awareness to the people who are still not yet aware about such harmful gases. Immediate action should be taken because an unlikely future is detected if the amount of this gas increases in the atmosphere.
Although global warming has been an issue of contention in the past, it is now generally agreed upon by the scientific community that the observed increased global temperatures can be linked to anthropogenic activities. Global surface temperature has increased 0.500C within the past century. This compound, trifluoro methyl sulfur pentafluoride (CF3SF5), is considered to be one of several super greenhouse gases, and because of its recent detection in the atmosphere, there is a relatively limited amount of literature available on CF3SF5. This review will present what is currently known regarding this molecule. Among the topics to be presented include the effects of CF3SF5 in the atmosphere, elimination mechanisms, lifetime and rate of increase, as well as information on possible sources of release into the atmosphere.

As we all know the present prevailing threat to our country is climatic changes. It is a huge problem not only for our country but also for the world. This is caused due to increase in the amount of greenhouse gas in our atmosphere.
PROBLEMS IN AGRICULTURE:
It affects the crop and the fertility of the soil. This in turn reduces the nutrition content of the crop. These greenhouse gases also help in the growth of micro-organisms and other pests that cause harmful diseases to the crop.
PROBLEMS TO HUMAN HEALTH:
Greenhouse gases pollution and this pollution cause several respiration problems and skin problems due to harmful materials and heat respectively.
These problems may one day turn up to be a huge destruction of our mother Earth. Global warming will increase, many parts of the world will be submerged under water due to melting of glaciers, humans will have impure air to breathe and so these problems will surely one day destroy living organisms in our Earth.
Climatic change is caused due to many factors. Major factors are the GHG’s such as CO, CO2, SO2, N2O and hydrocarbons etc. In addition to this newly discovered more potent greenhouse gas called Trifluoro Methyl Sulphur Pentafluoride is evolved. The main source of this gas is not yet been identified but one thing for sure this gas is going to create an unpredictable future.
The main aim of our project is to create a mass awareness and provide a suitable solution for an upcoming threat going to be caused by an unknown gas called Trifluoro Methyl Sulphur Pentafluoride. We are providing a clear description about this gas and we have also guessed a source that is found to be emitting this violent gas.
Our mother earth was once like a huge mass green ball. It was filled with green grasses, bushes and trees. All living organisms inhaled fresh air filled with pure oxygen. But it is the vice versa now. Now our mother earth is filled with greenhouse gasses instead of greenhouse gasses instead of green grasses.
Yes, we are in a situation to think fast, act fast and solve fast to ensure life on earth. We are all aware of some primary greenhouse gases like CO, CO2, SO2, N2O and hydrocarbons etc. But there are still other gases that cause huge destruction when compared to those primary gases.
Green house gases tend to form a layer in the atmosphere that reflects in the sun’s radiation back towards the Earth.
There are several methods, process and inventions to reduce the amount of CO2, SO2 and other such gases. People might think that the green house gases. People might think that the green house gases are under control but there is a growing threat to the earth that is the rise in amount of Trifluoro Methyl Sulphur Pentafluoride.
We have described about this gas in detailed manner and we have identified a source that is emitting this gas.

Our main objective is to prevent the increase in the amount of Trifluoro Methyl Sulphur Pentafluoride because this gas will cause many troubles to the world if its amount increases.
The reason for us to choose such an unknown gas is because this gas will keep on increasing its amount in a slow manner but also in a destructive manner. Unlike other greenhouse gases, this gas must be given more attention because it is very much harmful when compared to other greenhouse gases.
A Earth with a greenish look, beautiful flowers, dense forests, healthy imaginary nowadays. Forests are being destroyed, water resources are being demolished, many new industries are contributing bulk amount to pollution. But, yes there are several measures undertaken to reduce greenhouse gases. Then how come we still have climatic changes.
The reason is there are several other gases that contribute to climatic changes. One of such unknown gas is Trifluoro Methyl Sulphur Pentafluoride. We have given a very detailed description about this gas in the below sub-topics.

The formula of Trifuoro Methyl Sulphur Pentafluoride is CF3SF5. It is considered to be the most potent greenhouse gas present in the Earth’s atmosphere. This gas has a strong absorptive process. This gas is an extremely efficient inducer of greenhouse effect. CF3SF5 has a radiative force of 0.57 Wm-2ppb-1. The global warming potential of this gas is estimated to be 18,000 times than that of CO2. It’s molecular weight is 196.063.
CF3SF5 is resistant to photolysis and to reactions with common atmosphere and industrial ions. However it has been observed to react with positive ions in ionosphere and undergo both electron attachment and protonation.
It’s lifetime in the atmosphere is estimated to be o the order of 1000 years. Levels prior to the 1960’s are estimated to be zero providing strong evidence that it is solely of anthropogenic( man-made ) origin because of its atmospheric lifetime and stability it is still of considerable importance with regards to Earth’s future climate.

CF3SF5 contains neither the hydrocarbons nor the double bond that is the targets of oxiders and therefore are unreactive to oxidation. No experimental data could be found. However oxidation modeling has been conducted with SF6 which is molecularly similar to CF3SF5. It was calculated that SF6 would have an atmospheric lifetime of 6000 years when removed exclusively by OH and O3, thereby providing evidence that the oxidation of CF3SF5 is not likely to occur.
Photolysis refers to reaction in which chemicals are altered by exposure to light, though it is usually UV photons that contain enough energy to breakdown molecules. Photolytic reaction plays important roles in both the attenuation and activation of chemicals in the atmosphere. In 2001 it was proved that CF3-SF5 bond is able to withstand UV photo disassociation in the stratosphere. They hypothesized because CF3SF5 contains no doubles bonds or hydrogen atoms, photolysis should be considered the primary destruction pathway for CF3SF5 in the atmosphere. If this is the case, CF3SF5 is expected to have a lifetime of approximately 4050 years in the atmosphere. No solar radiation of wavelengths shorter than 290nm reaches the troposhpere; therefore it is not likely to be destroyed in this region via photolysis as well.
1. ELECTRON ATTACHMENT:
Electron attachment reactions involve the attack of a free electron to a parent molecule forming an energetic and unstable intermediate ion that will then fragment. Kennedy and Mayhew 2001 present observations that CF3SF5 can be destroyed by fast dissociative electron attachment, yielding SF5- and CF3 with a reaction rate constant of 7.7 x 10-8 cm3/sec. electron attachment reactions play an important role in the decomposition of CF3SF5 in the upper atmosphere.
Protonation refers to the addition of a proton to a parent molecule. As in electron attachment reactions, the formation of an unstable intermediary is formed and is subsequently dissociated in protonation reactions. The resulting products of this reaction are CF3, SF4 and HF, including the formation of the following ions: SF5+ and CF3+.

The structure of Trifluoro Methyl Sulphur Pentafluoride is composed of carbon and sulphur attached to 3 and 5 fluoride atoms respectively.

This gas has a global warming potential of about 18,000 times than that of CO2 in air is 395930000 ppt. So when CF3SF5 level rises to 21996.11 ppt this gas will have double the effect of CO2. This shows that the effect of CF3SF5 is unimaginable. The temperature of Earth will increase rapidly. Many new diseases will occur. There will be huge fuss in the world about this gas. Everything will turn upside down. Agriculture will be affected when temperature increases. When gas level goes above > 0.021996 ppm the Earth will burst into a ball of fire.
SOURCE OF PRODUCTION
SOURCE OF PRODUCTION:
The source of this gas is not yet identified. We have guessed that this gas should be emitted from the production of fluoropolymers in fluorochemical industries.
This gas was found to be in 0% during 1950-60s before the invention of computer. This gas was first identified 1990s after when computer was invented. So computer industry may also be a source which is emitting CF3SF5.
Of the above two sources 1st source is found in majority when compared to the 2nd one.

Since this gas doesn’t take part in any chemical reaction and high toxicity the eradication of this gas is possible. Therefore there are not any effective measures to reduce the gas in the atmosphere.
So the source from which the gas is emitted should be restricted.
Trifluoro Methyl Sulphur Pentafluoride as first observed in Antartic firn in 1999, since it was in very minute amount no effective actions were taken to prevent its increase. During the mid 1950 and 1960’s the amount of this gas in the atmosphere was zero. But in late 90’s it increased to 0.12-0.18 ppt at the present it is increasing at a rate of 0.006 ppt that is approximately 6% per year. No one has been able to detect the source of its emission.
We observed that fluoropolymers produced in fluorine chemical industries produces the by product called Trifluoro Methane ( CF3 ). This by product is then used to break sulphur hexane ( SF6 ), so this process might be the source that produces CF3SF5.
The scientific nuances underlying climatic changes mechanism are still beginning to be understood. Currently, much of the focus is on mitigating climate change has been focused on reducing the emission of the major greenhouse gases such as CO2, CH4 and N2O. The discovery of CF3SF5 in the atmosphere indicates that we need to keep in mind that trace gases have the potential to effect of global climatic change. Although the current concentration of CF3SF5 remains at a level that is unlikely to measurably contribute to earth’s warming, it is considered to be the most potent green house gas in the atmosphere due to its inertness and long lifetime. So speedy action should be taken to stop the emission of this gas. To do so production of fluoro polymers should be restricted in fluoro chemical industry and replacement for fluoropolymers should be identified.
After analyzing and researching about Trifluoro Methyl Sulphur Pentafluoride, we have confirmed that this gas will be causing many troubles to human life on Earth. That’s why like a famous proverb “PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE” we are creating a mass awareness to prevent the emission of the gas.
Alternatives should be identified to replace fluoropolymers in fluorochemical industries because as per our report we have stated that CF3SF5 is emitted by the reaction of fluoropolymers, Trifluoro Methyl, Sulphurhexane in high voltage or from computer industries.

There is no way that we could absorb, destroy or make a chemical change in the gas. So we must create a huge awareness, so that the people would come to know about the dangerous future.
We should immediately identify the source of emissions of this gas and stop its production.
Our Earth is marching towards an unlikely future. We should save our mother Earth immediately.

We provided awareness programs to students.
We distributed pamphlets to educated citizens.
We analyzed the effects of climatic changes in agriculture and warned the farmers about upcoming threats. We created an animative movie so that we can teach the students in an interesting manner. The people should demand the government to take speedy action to present the emission. “Prevention is better than cure” but in this case “cure” is now impossible.
We conducted the awareness programs to higher secondary students. We distributed pamphlets to the educated citizens. We visited villages and explained them about the unlikely future for the agriculture due to the influence of Trifluoro Methyl Sulphur Pentafluoride. We wanted to create a spark among the science men to identify the source of emission of Trifluoro Methyl Sulphur Pentafluoride and to find a immediate solution to stop its emission. People should be aware of the unlikely future and huge destruction upfront. They should take possible steps to global warming which is the main cause of climatic changes.
