Introduction of TOPIC

There are many artifacts that help define the American culture. One that I believe has had the most influence in the past and will continue to have a huge influence in the future is the television. Nearly every home is equipped with one, and most family rooms are centered around this device. A study in the 1960s said that at one point in time, more homes had a television than indoor plumbing. My husband lived in Mexico for 2 years and said that he would come across houses that had dirt floors and cardboard separating their rooms, but you can be sure they had a television in the center of it all. Growing up, every room in our house had a television. Now, there are homes that have televisions in their bathrooms, in their refrigerators, even in their oven doors (it’s true!). There are so many different types of television programs, that everyone is able to gain some type of use from it, which definitely has affected our culture.

When the television was introduced in the 1930s, it had a huge affect on the American culture. It represented change and advancement. Before the television, people only had their radios or newspapers. Now, they were able to match faces with voices, and actually see what was being described during their programs. This also opened up people’s eyes to the world around them. Audiences were able to view programs that were set on the other side of the country. They were able to see how different people interacted with one another. They were also able to see how diverse their world was. The television made it possible for people to view emotions and feelings that others were conveying because they could see it on their screens. Now, the television’s impact on our culture is much greater. It can be used as a video phone, our computer screen, and to play games. It has become more of a toy than an object. It has become a staple in our society. It used to be a luxury to own a television, now it is a necessity.

on television can portray certain ideals in our society. It can influence how we dress, the language we use, and the activities we engage in. Some people say that television can promote unhealthy habits and that can influence the way people act. I am a huge fan of the show Weeds, and I know that there have been times where I’ve thought, “I could be a drug dealer, it looks like a fun job.” But there are also programs that reflect good values and high standards, and leave you with a feeling of wanting to do good in the world.

Television has many positive benefits. It can be educational depending on the program’s one is choosing to watch. It can help someone stay up to date on current events. It can also help to bring people together, whether it be to gather to watch a show or talk about the program after it has aired. Television definitely provides entertainment for individuals as well. There have been studies that link children’s development with the programs that they are watching, which shows the positive effects television has at an early age in one’s life. It can be used as a person’s computer screen-my father uses his television as his computer monitor, and he has stated that it has made it so much easier to do work because he can see everything on a much larger scale, which helps his eyesight. There are numerous positive benefits that the television has had on our society.

There are also negative aspects of the television. There have been studies that have linked the television with obesity-after the television was introduced to societies, people were staying inside more often. They were not as active as they once were. There have also been links to violence shown on television with the violence that is increasing in adolescents. Like I said before, there are unhealthy habits that have been glorified by television. Many critics say that television programs promote unhealthy body images, which tend to influence youth in our societies today. As stated above, the television can be used as a gaming device-this can be viewed as a hindrance in a way. Kids are too preoccupied with their games to interact with the outside world, their families, and their friends. Someone stated that the television is making it harder and harder for pee wee sports to fill their rosters, because the kids are too busy playing their video baseball than to play actual baseball. The television is making it more and more possible for people to remain in their homes, not interacting with society.

Television is definitely a common cultural artifact-not just in our society, but across the world. It is everywhere and whether it is used for education, entertainment, or background noise, you can’t deny the fact that it influences the things that we do. It has helped to shape individuals and societies and will continue to do so in the future. It is interesting that our society talks about how negative the television is and that it is the reason more and more people are affected by obesity, but people seem to need the television. It’s definitely a “can’t live with it, can’t live without it situation.” The fact that people in today’s culture find television a necessity proves the impact it has had over the past few decades, and I believe the more technology advances, the more the television with continue to impact our culture.

Reality television

Reality television is a contemporary example that relates to pop culture. This has become more and more popular over the last few decades. The phenomenon of reality t. v. reflects today’s pop culture mindset that one can achieve success, fame, beauty and money by simply becoming a reality star. On Dictionary. com, pop culture is defined as “cultural activities or commercial products reflecting, suited to, or aimed at the tastes of the general masses of people. ” Pop culture also encourages conformity and individualism which is exactly what reality t. v. aims to do. While reality t. v. is popular in countries other than the United States, the American culture has come to greatly depend on the entertainment industry to form the viewers’ attitudes and beliefs. A reality TV text

Go back is a reality TV text that hinges on the participant’s transformation as a result of their new discoveries due to exposures and experiences during the program. The events and situations are planned by the program’s creators but the impact of the experience and how the participants grapple to extract meaning from the experience and reconnect with others and the world around them takes them through an emotional roller coaster that few are prepared for. It is important for an individual to undergo an emotionally powerful personal experience in order to enrich understanding of themselves and others and discover new connections with others and the world around us. In the opening lines of the program Adam states “25 years of my live I’ve been very sheltered”. This largely holds true of the other participants as well especially Raye and Racquel. Adam, having seen the Cronulla race riots, Raye seeing...

Crazy Frog Advert

Throughout the term, we have been looking at different advertisements on the television. These adverts would be make the audience want to watch them. The advert that I have chosen, I think is very effective and nearly everybody recognises it. I have chosen the crazy frog ring tone advert by Jamster. There are different types of adverts that are aimed at different types of people. Each of these would be on the TV showing at different times. For instance, if someone was advertising a toy car for a young child to play with, then it would be on after school during children’s TV. This is so that the children will watch them and tell their parents to buy the product for them. Later on in the evening when there are more popular programmes on such as Coronation Street, people will pay more money to advertise in between it. These advertisements...
