Hyper reality is a technique used to confuse viewers from being able to distinguish what is real and what is not. The Truman show (1998) is a great example for hyperreality, because from birth the main characters life has been a TV show. This has been kept hidden from him, when he begins to question his reality; his beings to notice things that help him distinguish real from not real. Thought out the film the audience is also questioning what is real and what is not. This is a characteristic of postmodernism in media.

500 Days of Summer (2009) is a good example of a non-linear film, which is one of the characteristics of postmodernism in film known as temporal distortion. Non-linear storytelling is known as telling a story out of order, as opposed to the traditional beginning middle and end. The story is a love story documented for 500 days of the characters love story. The non-linearity of the story could be easily identified because the story starts out showing the beginning of the blossoming relationship and then moves on to the end of the relationship. Also during the film, the male lead is portrayed as the uncommon romantic character where as the female is the one who is interested in keeping the relationship casual and avoiding commitment, which is not often done in films.

An interesting use of the non-linear story line, was how during a scene Tom (the leading man) is invited to a party by Summer (leading woman) and when he arrives to this party the scene is cut into a left screen representing his expectations of the evening and a right screen which represents the reality of the evening. Even films that are meant for children such a Puss in Boots, and Shrek, can be used as example of intertexuality. Intertexuality Is an important element of post modernism, which is the reference to previous literary works. Puss in Boots (2011) is an intertextual characters to the popular The Mask of Zorro (1998). Zorro and Puss have many obvious similarities, they both use the similar sword, their presentations are almost identical and both characters have the similar portrayal of how the opposite sexes seem to obsess over them in their stories. In addition, Antonio Banderas plays both characters.
