Introduction of TOPIC

In the essay “Why we crave horror movies” Stephen King argues the reason why we crave watching horror movies, examining the obvious and hidden. King believes we are all mentally ill by saying that we’ve all known people who have a certain kind of characteristic that can be found a little crazy. Why do we watch horror movies then? King starts with the first cause, which is: to show that we are not scared. He compares it to the thrill of a roller coaster; People ride roller coasters to prove that they have the courage to sit through it, just like horror movies. The second reason we go to watch horror movies is to reassure ourselves that we are normal.

His last reason is that we go to have fun. We enjoy seeing others get hurt, or killed. It makes us become children again and just see things in pure black and whites. King writes that we all have insanity in all of us, so insanity is measured on how much we show it, or how bad it is according to civilization. King explains that horror movies are the way for people to feed their inside lions. Meaning we watch movies to satisfy the “potential lyncher” inside of us.

King thinks that by getting rid of that frustration we can go on and live our lives in an accepted way for society. Horror movies like sick jokes intentionally captivate us to all that is worst in us. King ends by saying that as long as you keep the alligators fed, it will keep our craziness in, and our love out. I agree with Stephen King reasons of why we crave horror movies; I believe we are all a little mentally ill, that we watch horror movies to prove that we are not afraid, and that we have fun by seeing others in danger.

12 Angry Men Reviews

12 Angry Men depicts how a jury of twelve men must examine the evidence presented at the trial of a young boy accused of murdering his father. The evidence brought forth in the trial is the testimony of an old man who lives in the apartment about the boy ‚™s, a switchblade knife, the boy ‚™s sketchy alibi, and the eyewitness testimony of a woman who lives across from the boy ‚™s apartment building. With the evidence making the boy appear guilty, a single juror questions the accuracy of the evidence and tries to implant reasonable doubt within the other jurors. The testimony of the old man that lives in the apartment about the boy ‚™s seems to be believable. The old man testified that he had heard what sounded like a fight coming from the boy ‚™s apartment and heard the boy tell his father that he was going...

The Movie Twelve Angry Men

The Movie "Twelve Angry Men" is the ultimate example of a group of people forced to interact in order to reach a single, defined goal. The jury, which consists of 12 men, must deliberate until a unanimous decision is reached. In this specific example, which takes place in a New York courthouse, the decision holds the life of an 18 year old in the balance. The movie is presented in a manner that allows the viewer to be the invisible jury member and sit in as they deliberate the fate of the defendant. The first vote is 11 to 1, finding the defendant guilty. The 12 men ride a rollercoaster of emotions as it finally ends in a unanimous decision. Throughout the paper I will analyze and elaborate on relationships and personalities that arise throughout the groups interactions. The report will follow the group as each person is forced to...

The Greek Heros in film Percy Jackson

I will be comparing the Greek Heros, with the 2010 film Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief, directed by Chris columbus. Heroes take arduous journeys, confront Mythical creatures, discover lost treasure, and change the nature of the world with their acts of courage and selflessness. They are legendary figures, endowed with great strength and ability, who dare to heed the call of adventure. These heroes endure much opposition, hardship, and danger to transcend the average man. Ultimately, the hero emerges as an invincible warrior who, by asserting his will, changes the world. Now let’s look at the story of the great warrior Achilles. To the Greeks he was a role model of the greatest hero. Achilles was the main character and hero of the Trojan War in Homer's, the greatest Greek epic poets, Iliad. Achilles was a son of a King Myrmidons and the nymph Thetis. With being a Demigod, he...
