Franklin D. Roosevelt, our 32nd president, was considered to be on of the best presidents because he saved America from disaster. He came into office after President Hoover with a big mess on his desk which was the great depression. Roosevelt promised Americans a New Deal which would help them come out of the great depression and turn America around. Roosevelt is considered a hero for three main things he did. He never forgot the forgotten man, he created the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), Federal Housing Administration (FHA), The Social Security Administration (SSA), and he saved the country from disaster.

Franklin D. Roosevelt handled the forgotten man by giving us many opportunities to work. The forgotten man was a man who was poor and who needed the money but were not getting. During the great depression most Americans had no job and no place to live. Many men left there families and the city and went city hopping to find jobs and no one was taking them. The unemployment rate rose up to 25%. Roosevelt came up with the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) which put young men aged 18 to 25 to work building roads, developing parks, planting trees, and helping in soil erosion and flood control projects. Roosevelt established the Civil Works Administration which provided 4 million immediate jobs in the winter. In the end of all of these employment projects created jobs for Americans. 2.3 to 3.3 million Americans ended up with a job and the forgotten man was no longer forgotten.

FDR established 3 main administrations that helped Americans and that we still use today. The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) protected bank deposits up to 5,000. The FDIC helped regulate investment activities by having check ups on the bank to make sure they were not losing any money. So the FDIC watched people’s money and made sure they would not lose it if another depression hit. The Federal Housing Administration (FHA) insured loans for building and repairing homes. This helped families who had homes that were damaged would get loans from the bank and have people come repair their homes. The social security Administration (SSA) provided a pension for retired workers and their spouses and aided people with disabilities. The SSA was the biggest think Roosevelt established because it helped everyone who was working or people who were disabled. It gave money to people who use to work but now are retired or are just disabled. Although the New Deal did not end the Great Depression, it did help reduce the suffering of thousands of men.

President Roosevelt saved the country from disaster. If president Hoover was elected again he would have let it fix itself and it was not going to. Roosevelt came up with the New Deal that saved the country and the plan was just to bring America back to its feet. What Roosevelt’s plan was to help the unemployed and not forget the forgotten man. He gave many men opportunities to work and make money for the family. The New Deal programs helped with employment projects, business, farmers, housing, and labor relations. These deals helped many people get back on their feet after struggling for so many years. Roosevelt was a hero to the people of America and the American country.

Although President Roosevelt did not end the Great depression it gave people a sense of dignity. People were able to work and provide money for their families and themselves. President Roosevelt is a hero to many America because he was the man who got America back on the right track.
