Introduction of TOPIC

It is said that human beings are becoming slaves of modern technology. Give your opinion why?

Technology can be defined as a body of knowledge used to create tools, develop skills, and extract or collect materials; the application of science (the combination of the scientific method and material) to meet an objective or solve a problem. In other words, the application of science advances to benefit humanity.

Technological advancement is becoming more and more sophisticated. It is accessible to almost everyone, making it a significant part of modern society. Human beings depend on machines in everything they do. However, because of these situations, there are some ideas that human beings are becoming slaves of modern technology. But I do not agree with these opinions.

To begin with, technology is the principal driving force in the extensive range of both industry and agriculture, which makes an imprint on human life. It has become an indispensable ingredient for the civilization of human beings. For example, in agriculture, more products are now made from the same amount of raw materials utilizing the new advanced techniques. When it comes to industry, the success of technology is even more profitable. A typical example is the computer which is used in most manufacturing nowadays as a magical device including word progressing, cutting, assembling clothes, etc. For example, computerization has made it far easier for the banks to keep track of individual banking transaction, helping to solve the potential and financial problems more effectively and efficiently.

On the other hand, as a result of the technological necessity, human beings are now relying on technology too much. Obviously, people are always in search of leading a convenient and easy life. Thus they make an effort to improve the technology which allows them to have more leisure time to enjoy their life. To be more specific, the majority of tenuous tasks are now completed by machines in an accurate and swift way. For instance, thanks to the invention of electricity, many products are now produced totally by the control of only one computer, saving a great deal of human effort. A lot of work that used to be done by human activities in the past is now conducted by equipment and machines completely. All staff in many factories has been replaced with a computer. Unfortunately, this convenience may result in laziness and dependence. The more sophisticated technology is, the worse this situation becomes. In other words, human takes such an overwhelming advantage of technology that they are considered to be the slaves of it.

In contrast, it is not fair if saying technology is controlling human beings. Firstly, without human, technology would

it will thrive or not. More importantly, machines cannot think, they can only follow human instruction as well as conduct what has been previously installed in their brain. Another reason is that there are still many tasks that require human intelligence and creativity. We hold the key for its innovation, evolution to resolve the impending problems associated with the abuse of technology. To conclude, it can’t be denied that modern technology is now part and parcel of one’s life. The point is that everyone needs to make sure that humans are aware of the bad and good impact which technological advancement has on life. However, we should make full use of it to achieve our goals and dreams rather than to become dependent on it.

Important agents of innovation

Creativity can be defined as the production of novel and useful ideas in any domain(Stein,1974; Woodman, Sawyer & Griffin, 1993). Creativity cannot be separated from entrepreneurship which in turn is the process of creating, exploiting and developing an opportunity.Millard, Pretorius and Kruger(2005) mentions that “creativity is clearly part of parcel of the entrepreneurial skills and is required to successfully start a venture” (p. 56). Entrepreneurs and their ventures are considered to be “important agents of innovation”(Bosma & Harding,2007, p. 16), not simply in terms of the products and services they provide, but also in terms of the technologies and processes that they utilise(Bosma & Harding;Watson et al.,1998) creativity is seen as going beyond new products, new services and new and improved processes (Cook, 1998; here, 2006) Creativity Sternberg & Lubart, 1999 Amabile (1983) Csikszentmihalyi (1996, 1999) Entrepreneurship Richard Cantillon Schumpeter Body: Key points for creativity: Identify your motives Seek flow:...

Harnessing Creativity and Innovation in the Workplace

Creativity plays a critical role in the innovation process, and innovation that markets value is a creator and sustainer of performance and change. In organizations, stimulants and obstacles to creativity drive or impede enterprise. Creativity has always been at the heart of human endeavor. Allied to innovation, which creates unexpected value, it is now recognized as central to organizational performance. (Some hold that the capacity to harness intellectual and social capital—and to convert that into novel and appropriate things—has become the critical organizational requirement of the age.) The shift to knowledge economies has been abrupt and there is a flurry of interest in creativity and innovation in the workplace. Innovation is considered, quite simply, an imperative for organizational survival. It may even be the key to some of the biggest challenges facing the world, such as global warming and sustainable development. Notwithstanding, we are still far from a theory of...

This includes incorporating new development, adding new models, keeping a watchful eye on their competitors’ products and listening to the expectations of their customers. These sustained innovations maintain and/or expand their market share and improve their profitability.  Christensen pointed out the existence of another type of innovations which disrupt the existing order by presenting a new technology or by introducing a metamorphosis in providing a service and upsetting the existing providers of services and products, in many cases causing the existing giants to fail or the existing technology to become obsolete [Christensen, 1997]. These innovations are called disruptive innovations. Christensen used the example of steel mini-mills, which...
